Tilt Column
Can someone explain or post a link on How to convert a Van column to a truck column please?
I paged through the FAQ's section and found the one on "Neutral Safety on Van Column" but I need to know how to do everything else. Thanks! |
What else? Just get adaptor plug and compress intermediate a couple of inchs. It should fit right in.

Most people bend the shift linkage arm to allow the the rubber collar, lower gasket, and metal mounting collar to go on from the bottom. Then bend the linkage arm back for proper shifting.
|
Just bend the shift arm to slide the van gaskets off and slide your truck parts on. You can remove the wire from the flat plug and put them in you half moon plug. I just did mine it's pretty easy. Should take 2 hours or so.
|
Also the back-up light connector is a different shape. You can use the connector housing from a van. The connector pins from your truck should pop right in without any cutting or soldering.

What does it take or what do you mean by "Compress intermediate shaft" ?????

1 Attachment(s)
You need to compress shaft so part 1 will slide easily in and out of part 2 .then reinstall column with this shaft on end. then push or pull on steering wheel to position as desired. Then tighten everything back up. If you have further questions please let me know as I have done 7 of these now.

Do you hafta drill out or pop out any rivets or fasteners to get it to telescope like that?
|
Some you can just wack with a sledge gently and they will start to move then lube them well. others I have drilled out the 2 plastic pins(actually 4-- I drill from both sides) Makes it easier to collapse and get it to start telescope without them.

Lots of info in the archives using "tilt column" as the search key.
Here is a good one: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ht=tilt+column |
Form my shaft, I didn't drill it, I just whacked it on the floor. I held the " inner" shaft and banged straight down hitting the "rag joint" part on the floor. Once it started to collapse I gradually shortened it till it fit just right.
