Oil pressure line location

I need to know if anyone has a 402, and where the oil pressure line is connected to the engine. Mine ('72) is connected at the left side on the engine just above the clutch bell crank. I've got (what I think) is really high pressure at the guage. It's almost pegged when driving, and close to that when idling. I can't find any blockages. I'm wondering if the line's connected to the engine in the wrong place and giving me an incorrect reading. Also; is there a way to check an oil pressure guage for accuracy? Thanks..............

That's the correct spot for the pressure line. It sounds to me like you have a high volume oil pump in your engine. Probably added during a past rebuild.

assuming the guage is acurate (they were acurat-ISH 40 years ago) pegged is 60 pounds, straight up is 30 pounds.... you can probably fugure the math on the rest.
So pegged isn't all that high.

Good info, but where did you get the specs on the pressure gauge?

yes its on left side right by number 7 cylinder. real small line. and to your question about running high pressure.. im running a 402 and when im idiling i run the last mark on the gauge before high. and when i rev it or hit the gas a bit it goes up to high.. so you should be fine

it says so on the back of the guage, and the rest is simple math.
The big trucks have 80 pound guages in them.

My rebuilt 396 reads 60 psi at about 3,000 rpm, but about 30 psi at idle. I believe it has a high volume pump. Can't remember, was built over 15 yrs ago.
