Gas tank conversion help needed
Hi , I am converting from LPG back to petrol. I have no parts what so ever so need to by everything new. (from tank brackets to carb) The trouble is I don't know whether to buy 73-78 parts or 79-87 parts. The truck is a mid eighties double cab on a 76 suburban chassis. I think the short-bed deck is mid eighties, but how can I tell? It has two filler doors, one each side so I want I to put dual tanks in.
I need to know which tanks to get year wise (what is the difference) and what filler components to get to suit the tank Also which sender and selection valve because these are listed with number of different outlets. Idea also would be if there is someone here who can sell me all the bits and send them to New Zealand that would work then I know I have got the correct stuff. Cheers |

revitout Lets try to break this down to see if we can get you further along. For ID purposes the main breaks in body design are 73-80 and 81-87 for light duty trucks. The Suburban/Blazer and 1 ton trucks went to 1991.
You say that you think the bed is 80s, but it has two filler doors. The filler doors started in 79 and went to 87 but there were some changes along the way in the size of the filler necks. If you post pics of your bed we might be able to offer better advice. |

If ever thing is correct, that appears to be a 88-91 body. The front end is definitely 88-91 and I will assume the bed is too.

I think the cab checked out to be 84, and the PO thought the tray to be around the same. The chassis is 76 suburban but maybe that makes no difference. I thought about doing the rear mount tank but I really want to put the spare wheel there because its a pain on the deck.

You might wanna check the rear half of the frame.The suburban frame would be a lot shorter then that truck is.

Yea the chassis has been cut and 0.5m added in the middle.
Does anyone know what those MTS poly tanks are like? |

Being a suburban frame the factory truck tanks probably won't work with out a lot of work.The suburban had a rear tank on it.I havn't used the mts tanks yet but if thats your only option i would run them.

It has had twin tanks in before by the guy that built it. There is nothing left apart from the holes that mounted the side gas tanks , and one feed fuel line running up the right side to where the mech fuel pump was. I have been doing lots of reading and think I need mech fuel pump with no return and 600 Holley. Just wondering if I need 2port sender and which selection valve , and what powers it , 12v or vacuum? I can't see any trace of wires etc or where it was located before being stripped out and lpg system installed.
