hurricane season is on
Strange storms. Strange storm name. Tropical storms->hurricane->tropical storm again as it runs up the east.
You coasties hunker down and keep your ears on the weather channels. As if the virus wasn't enough. |

Re: hurricane season is on
I-Say-E-Is makes tropical system #9 for the season already. First one to affect us. A long way to go to Dec 1st The name is the late Latin version of the early Hebrew name Isiah. Gotta get them all covered these days I guess  AMost of the reporters are having a hard time with it. Makes sense to me!
It's a big storm. Bigger than strong. Started raining around 4pm yesterday when it was still in the Carolinas. It let up some by evening, then rain steady all night and still raining. I am on the edge a good hundred mile from Richard inland. I had 3/4" in the gauge when I got home at 6. tidal surge will be fairly high as well as creeks and rivers swelling. Not an issue here being a headwaters area. I was working at the place on the Severn River near it's mouth at the Chesapeake Bay when the rain started. It was about dark out at 4pm with thunder and lightning. Probably what brought Richard the tornados. It should be past us by suppertime. We'll see how it goes. I hope everyone stays safe |
Re: hurricane season is on
Tornadoes are becoming more and more common up your way these past 10 years or so. We've had them for ever.

Re: hurricane season is on
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. I spent the last hour at that cottage yesterday helping the 93 year old owner secure the boats for the storm surge. Their daughter took off to go secure her own boats on the Eastern shore leaving him and her mother who has Parkinson's and can barely walk. They rode that first round of thunderstorms out in the cottage. I hope they made it home alright. I felt bad leaving them but he insisted they were alright. My 1hr drive took my 2hrs. I called his some about 45 minutes away to make sure he was aware of the situation

No problems at the beach house this time. Didn't even get any flooding thank goodness. People up in NC I don't think where as lucky!
Everyone stay safe. Our son & daughter in law are down on the beach said it was 90* and a beautiful day.:chevy: |
Re: hurricane season is on
Rain stopped around noon and sun came out. It was just a long steady rain here, straight down... 3" of it in 20 hours. That's when it got breezy. Really nice day after all. I did a load of wash and hung it out. Went in to town for some things. There was this nasty looking cell I took a picture of from outside Food Lion (coming later). Made all my stops and got back home. Hooked the trailer up and left at 3:30 to get a yard of small river stones. Left the stone place at 3:00 and over by my place I could see it was a dark area full of rain. Got close to home and water running off everywhere. "Hmmm... must have rained quite a bit". I get home at 4:30, never drove in any rain, and the gauge I had emptied had 1/2" in it. "Yup, it rained a good bit!". Probably in less than a 1/2hr. Sunny blue skies now. Clothes got soaked and I was planning on mowing when I got back. Too wet now, tomorrow morning. I'll be heading up to Carlisle tomorrow. I hope my clothes dry before it's time to go

Re: hurricane season is on
it's kind of funny how a tropical storm has cooled things down more than it's been since early June. What are those numbers that start with a 7 with another number that follows? Yeah, Haven't seen those for a long time. I forgot to get my camera out of the truck to get that picture I was talking about
