5 channel amp suggestions
 

Its been a while since dabbling in the car audio department and it seems there are a lot of compact options of 5 channel amps these days. I like the idea of having a small footprint that will power everything. Any suggestions or experiences for an amp?

Pieces I have for the puzzle:
JL C2-650 component set for the front (60w RMS)
JL C2-650x coaxial set in the rear (60w RMS)
JL TW1 (75-300w RMS)

The Alpine MRV-V500 (40wx4 + 150wx1) for $225 on amazon seems like a good choice or will that be underpowered?

Most true audiophiles will not recommend a single 5 channel amp. However, I'm an old guy who likes my old music, and I do not want overwhelming bass which seems to be the preferred way to listen to music today. I like nice tight bass, and actually prefer 2-way speakers on top of that.

I got a NVX 900.5 from Sonic Electronic (online). I'm running a 12 inch Pioneer shallow mount in a custom box where the gas tank used to set, and 4-6 1/2 inch Kicker 2-way speakers in kick panel and custom mounts in the rear cab corners, up pretty high. I like the sound. The NVX 900.5 puts out 100 watts x 4 @ 2ohms, and 70 x 4 @ 4 ohms. The single sub is like 400 or so @ 2 ohms, and about 240 @ 4 ohms. That is adequate for me. Sound is nice and clear at any volume I care to listen to it. My head unit is a Retrosound. I forget the model, but it's the one with the USB input for my phone, which I use as a source. FM reception isn't the best I've ever had, but again, adequate for my needs.

I would recommend the NVX 900.5. Compact, well made, easy to install. I used RCA's for inputs on all 4 channels. I like it very much.

Oh, and I paid $209 from Sonic Electronic. NVX has a lower power option as well....

In my Blazer, I have the Pioneer GM-D9605.....currently using JBL 3-way 6x9 in the side panels and 5¼ round in the doors with a low profile 10" sub under the rear seat..
I wired the speakers in parallel and bridged them to get max power and cut to 2 ohm resistance (which is OK for that amp) wired the sub as normal....it sounds good and clean with adjustable sub....I'm happy with it.

This is the other amp I considered. I got a bunch of NVX sound deadener from one of my kids, and liked it (like dynamat only with NVX logo...), and the NVX amp had excellent reviews, so that's the one I went with. Pioneer makes very good quality products. I would say that would also be an excellent choice! Good call!!!

The NVX gets recommended A LOT on diymobileaudio forum. A solid choice.

Personally, I would skip the rear coax. Run the front components separately on the 4 channels with a digital signal processor (DSP).

I ran kicker 6.5"/1" components, rear 4x6 plates and a 12" sub via a kicker 5 channel amp for many years, it was a fantastic setup. So awesome it was stolen. Anyways- that kicker amp just pushed and pushed. Pushed more RMS via the sub channel then my sub could even handle. Miss that setup.
