Still looking for internal pics of the new Bosch tachometer

So finally have some internal pics of the Bosch version Tach. I put it in my lathe and hit my 90* angle grinder to it as it was spinning....slow. And the ring seperated easily. No heat to speak of from it either. I was wondering if its the same internals of the reproduction tachs being sold in all the parts catalogs. Not sure, but its a pretty simple setup. Its not a direct drop in, but close. I have also picked up 2 older versions of the Sun tach also. These do not need Transmitters. They are heavy duty tachs. Ill try and post some pics of those also.

Re: My tach install thread

I am converting my cluster lighting to LED's. Does the Bosch tach have the same type lamp as the factory ones? If not, does the bulb look like it can retrofitted to an LED?

Very nice work BTW!

Re: My tach install thread

Re: My tach install thread

It has an led already on it. Not sure how to retrofit it. Not sure on the color of it either as i haven't put power to it.

Re: My tach install thread

Cool! I read a review somewhere that it was green. I'm installing all green in my cluster. One less thing I might need to do.

Thanks for the info!

Can anyone comment on the color of the new Bosch Tach light?

Re: My tach install thread

OK, am I that stupid? Got the tach today and can't take it apart! The face plate is crimped around the cup. The first time the instructions mention it being removed it says "Leave tachometer out of the cup for now." ????

The last paragraph says how to install the tach in the cup.

I know I am probably going to gut it like you did rideblue00 but pwrbrkpadguy said he didn't have to cut his apart.

Not really sure how one could connect the wires without removing the cup anyway...

Mine is green, would like white

Re: My tach install thread

I did not gut my original setup. I designed my bracket to fit the sealed unit. The pics i posted are for someone elses project. They are referring to the cup as the bracket it comes with, its designed to be mounted on the steering column with a hose clamp.

OK I can see by your pic you trimmed off the crimped metal of the face plate that's around the INNER housing. My face plate is crimped around the outer housing, (cup).

The instructions show the cup as the chrome outer housing BTW.

Re: My tach install thread

Going back, I can also see in your second post it clearly shows the face plate crimped around the inner housing. I really think someone assembled everything first and then crimped the face plate around the chrome cup and inner housing!

Also noticed that T2vigil tach is constructed differently than yours. I'm sure which one I have since I believe I read in this post that we are talking two different manufacturers during the time this thread has been alive.

Re: My tach install thread

Yes Sunpro and now Bosch. Both tachs appear the same. Show more pics of the back and fronts also please

Re: My tach install thread

T2vigil did his almost at the same time. They are the same tach

Not much else to see. I noticed the back of mine appears the same as both of yours.

Now, if I keep this tach, it's obvious I need to grind off the face plate to get the cup off. What that leaves me with is the question. Like T2vigil's with the housing and no face plate or like the other one you gutted. You said you did that one for someone else. How did you mount it?

Got the face plate cut off. I used a lathe like you did. Based on T2vigil's pics I thought he painted the perimeter ring assuming it was metal. I see it's actually a rubber gasket gripping the edge of the glass. (Maybe he just painted the visible portions of the inner housing.) Mine's also not sealed to the tach. The face plate presses the gasket against the inner housing. Looks just the pics you posted a few threads back.

I also assumed the glass/gasket was more or less attached to the inner housing. I'm hoping he'll see this thread and chime in as I would like to see what he did. I originally planned to use the glass to keep the tach dust-free but I might just install it as is. Or maybe a good application of rubber cement might hold it in place? I can install the tach so it is pushing against the cluster front to help hold it.

Anyway, I don't think there is any reason to disassemble it any further. Now to check the light setup.
