1972 Jimmy seat backs
 

I am missing the seat backs on my new Jimmy. LMC has them in black. My seats are olive so i am assuming the back were olive. Is that reproduced or so i get a can of SEM paint in olive?

black is the only color on the reproductions - seat backs.

Hi, I just bought a set of repo black backs and re did them in Parchment. Try SEM or Dupli color for the olive green or check online at The Parts Place restoration paint they will have the olive green you need. Good luck.

I had good luck with black LMC seat back panels that I rattle canned olive green with LMC recommended ColorBond LVP interior green paint (part # 37-8378) https://www.lmctruck.com/1967-72-che...olorbond-spray. The color matched well and the dye adhered well. It's been 10 years and they haven't cracked and the color still look good today.


I painted the console and seat rear arm rests too. I didn't use adhesion promoter but would recommend you use it after you clean the surfaces well.

I think good prep work (clean surfaces), adhesive promoter, and clear coat will will help it look good for a long time.

I only cleaned surfaces with isopropyl alcohol then used the green color bond. It looked good initially but I I were to do it again, I would take it a step further by using adhesive promoter and clear coat to make it more durable. Some areas have not held up as well as I would have liked but I think that may have been some error on my part.

The seat backs color still look good today since they don't get exposed to much direct sunlight. The rear armrest color looks good but is peeling in a few spots. The console has significant color fade after 9 or 10 years, probably primarily UV damage.

Most modern leather seats are clear coated to prolong their life so it probably won't hurt to do the same. Just tossing it out there.
