It'd be cool if you could incorporate some styling cues from the weedeater--very sleak.

Seriously though your scoops are going to look pretty rad. Keep posting pics so we can see the finished product. BTW, Where did you get your hoodscoops?

I cut them out of a '72 hood. I bought the '72 for the axles and decided to use other pieces for my '68. All was done with poster board first as a template to get measurements, then transferred to the hood to cut out. Not too bad for a days work.~~Keep the opinions coming, thanks.

Neat idea...How do you plan on attaching those to the hood? Are they glass or metal scoops? Please keep us informed on the progress........

These are metal scoops. As you can see, I cut it out of the black hood it's sitting on. I plan on welding them to the hood. These will also be functional scoops, with some kind of grille inserts(haven't determined what yet). There will be openings cut into my '68 hood to allow air to come in and maybe some in the back of the scoops to let hot air out. This may take awhile to do, but I'll keep ya posted on progress. I appreciate everyones honest opinions, thats why I posted, thanks.

They're metal scoops. He talked about cutting them out of a hood...

Are you going to add any support to the scoops themselves?

I wonder how close to a 442 they are? Perhaps you could run 442 Ram Air? That would be trick.

Re: Pics of hood mod

I must have misunderstood. I thought that he got the scoops from an original 442 hood, and wondered if they were fiberglass.

Re: Pics of hood mod

Yeah, I'll have to brace them a little bit underneath. They are pretty close to the 442. I have pics of 442 hoods I tried to go by. Ram air would be pretty trick. I hope I can incorporate it.

I'd love to see pics. I've been tinkering around in my head about something like this.

Although I was thinking more like early 70s Firechicken ram air. I already have a "shaker" hood scoop and carb set up.

Yeah, the early 70's Firebird has some nice scoops as well. You have pics of the shaker on your truck??

Sorry, it's not on my truck yet. I've been thinking about it, is all. I have the complete hood and air box in storage.

heck, my truck is a frame in one garage bay, a motor/tranny combo over yonder, a cab sitting on the chassis, a bed in 25billion pieces and alot of ideas...

Come to think of it, my garage looks a little like yours right now.

Actually, I think it would look slick with those hood scoops you're building...

I may be interested in doing something like that, smaller and rounder, like the Bel Air bullets they ran. Could be an interesting look.
