The Bluejay special
1 Attachment(s)
Ok,I thought I would start a new thread for the 66.
I decided to swap to a 4 bbl. edelbrock carb and carb adapter kit ( thanks tj) in place of the 2 bbl. Eventually dual exhaust and perhaps lower it a bit more. This is not really a build thread as much as a progress journal. |

I am kind of hesitant to mess around with the carbs. The truck runs so well.

Re: The Bluejay special
Personally, I would never bother with a 4bbl on a 2bbl intake with the adapter. Either swap to a 4bbl intake, or stick with the 2bbl setup.

The adapter cost me $16 and some change at O'reillys. |

Ever try and drink a milkshake through a skinny straw? How about shoving a phone book through a mail slot? Same principle.

Re: The Bluejay special
I'm going to do an oil change and what to know what you v6 guys are using for oil. I'm also going to replace the valve cover gaskets and can't find torque values or sequence. It has Phillips head screwed instead of bolts to hold the valve covers down. Is that typical?

Re: The Bluejay special
Yep, they just use screws. These engines don't oil on top that well so I'd go with a nice set of cork gaskets and when you go to tighten them down just start from the middle and work you way out. Good oil weight to use would be either 30w and 10w-30. Really depends on the climate there.

Re: The Bluejay special
Thanks TJ. I've been researching this truck and the info I got was they used w20 on these v6s. I don't think they even make that weight anymore. The passenger side valve cover is leaking some.
The truck is very minimal. One visor. One mirror,on the drivers side. One arm rest. The truck is really cool. I've been watching the mileage. Getting some different readings but the latest is about 13.24 miles per gallon. Driving about 65 mph. It's doing better than what I've been reading about these trucks. I am wondering if some people who give info on the v6 engines have ever had one. It might just be I haven't had the truck long enough to really know anything. But it seems like a great all around truck. I don't understand the negative comments from my experience with old gmc trucks. I hope this engine keeps running strong. I want to take it to some car shows. |
