1969lb, WoW! It's not soundin' like what ya wanna hear. Not good at all... I rarely hear anything positive about the Chevy 305 either. I hope you work somthing out for the 72 though! Sounds nice! Darren

How honest are you? You could try to pass it off as a 350...you always here bout someone gettin a 350 only to discover it's a 305. I'm not recomending it...
You could also find something that just needs a small block, slap that sucker in there, and sell it. Like maybe...an S-10.

305s dont run too bad in a small truck,I have one in my 89 Ranger.....kinda rattles the ford boys too!........69 longhorn

Fast68Chevy 03-20-2002 01:12 AM

i had a fresh rebuilt 1980 caprice 305 with original stockl aluminum intake manifold and rebuilt roch q jet in my 68 c10 with 3 speed and then th350 with the 3,73 rear and it was nice !! it moved right alont wayyyyyyy better than the 307 it replaced. i had no complaints at all, i later put 1.94 int valves and edelbrock springs on it and vroom vroom was more fun, wasnt doggy one bit a tall, it all just depends on the condition of the engine, 307 would have been same way had it not had 200,000 + miles on it and the snapped and bent over the #1 piston rod and also spun other bearings

if it runs good then use it, all it is is an anemic 350, 305 are good dem derby engines and spare engines to get tou by when 350 blows up

cant rag on it if it runs good,

O'l Buck 03-20-2002 01:25 AM

the only part of a 305 that's any good is the heads, you can use the intake on other small blocks too, but everyone as 3 of those. In my area, you can get 100 bucks for a set of heads. The stock car guys like them for the added compression on a 350.

The 305 heads will bump up compression, but they are so restrictive you can actually hear the air stacking up in it where it can't get out as fast as it goes in.

The 305, no-matter-how you build them are doggy at best. I have 2. One in the street rig, and one in my 98. The oldie looks great under the hood and is carbed. The newbie is computered and SUCKS!!!! I hate the throttle response and de-acceleration. The street rig is crying to have a bigger motor in her, and I hope later this spring she'll get her wish.

Nothing wrong with the 307's. Everyone I had/have serve me well.
