Interior Window handle fixes for stripped splines?
Hey Guys I am so tired of my stripped interior handles on my 1958 Apache over the years. The splines alwasy seem to strip off easily for either door opening or especially the window winders. They handles slip on to the splined male end coming out of the door and then you tighten up a small set screw. At one time I did drill small notch in the window regulator splines so the set screw had more grip. The aftermarket handles seem like they are made out of chromed sawdust! Has anyone come up with a good fix for this ongoing problem? Thanks much!

Thoroughly clean and lubricate your regulators. After 60+ years they're probably loaded with dirt.

Have successfully grafted undamaged spline sections onto old shafts. Basically cut off old spline. drill center out. turn down replacement section to fit and cross pin to retain. Do it on a small metal lathe with care to retain correct dimensions. Hard part is finding usable undamaged donor splines. Some have used a cross pin to fix handle to worn shaft but ugly and temporary. And then theres new ones $$$$$. Keeping handles tight on shaft is important. I replace the phillips or slot head screws with an allen for greater grip.

Is it the splines in the handles or the splines on the regulators that's worn out? If it's the handles, easy fix..
