1960 chevy or GMC cab replacement
I found me a donor truck (complete) with the same yr as my 60 stepper that was totalled from the insurance company. The donor truck will need lower sheet medal and floor patches replacement but the drive train is unique. I think it is a 290 with factory automatic. I also found me a parts truck (1960 GMC) with very little or no rust on lower cab with a big back window! My question is will a 1960 chevy cab and a 1960 GMC cab interchange? Are these cabs the same? Also will my 60 Chevy dash fit on to a 60 GMC cab? Any help is greatly appreciated...:metal:

Re: 1960 chevy or GMC cab replacement
As with any cab swap the vin tag needs to stay on the cab. So you should make sure you have the title to it. What you can and cant do varies from state to state so you may want to talk to your DMV and see what they have to say.

the cabs are the same except for the dash, the dash can be changed out, it is spot welded in.

A '60 Chevy cab and a '60 GMC cab should be all the same except for the dash. As already stated that can be changed.

UPDATE: Cab swap is coming along finally. I finished the driver side door replacement and new lower medal patches. Almost done with the passenger side. Bought complete dash with an unmolested radio section from a member here. Here are some pics of the progress :metal:

Re: 1960 chevy or GMC cab replacement
Any more pics of cutting old dash out and putting new one in? I am going the other way, want to put the GMC dash from my current cab into the Chev cab I bought. 1961. I have already pulled a chev dash from a parts truck for practice, but had to carve up the bottom of the A-pillars some.

Slowly but surely! Too many projects going on the same time. Over Turkey day week got the under belly done with primer, seam sealer and Raptor spray on liner. Very impressed with this stuff. Been sitting on its back for over a month. Need to gather 4 more people to lift and set back on the dolly to sand and spray the inside floor also. :metal:

How crazy a year later to the exact (Turkey Week) Im back on the cab!:sexy:
Got the inside floor sanded and epoxy primer. Ready for the Raptor Spray Liner. Gutted out the damaged cab and removed the front clip on my 60 stepper. Excited for this weekend because the damaged cab will be out and rolling chassis stored in my shop for cleaning and repairs!:metal: Some pics! |
