Quality extractor set. Easy outs??
Anyone have a good extractor set that they use and has held up over the years?

I have had better luck with left hand drill bits then any easy out I’ve ever tried.

I've got the Craftsman socket style and they work great. But, if you're trying to remove a bolt with a rounded head, get a nut that is big enough to fit over it and weld it to the bolt head. The heat will make sure it comes out nice.

Bad thing about any brand easy out and if you break it off as you trying to back the bolt/stud out now you have a super hard bit that you can't drill thru.
I would drill out the bolts. Nice sharp drill bit and a bit drill oil. I haven't done this but maybe just grind the heads of the bolts off assuming you aren't using the wheel cylinders again? |

I used to be a boat mechanic, so believe me when I tell you I have extracted a lot of busted bolts. I have a matco DEK10 extractor set with the left handed drill bits. It has served me well.
Pro tip: Hands down, the best oil I have ever used for removing busted bolts is Rapid-Tap https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/i...SNDwk&usqp=CAc If it's in a place that you can heat it up with a torch, heat the busted bolt until it's cherry red. start dropping rapid tap on the busted bolt At first it will smoke, then when it is the correct temp something magic will happen :barn: it will start sucking down into the threads. Just keep dripping it on 'till it stops bubbling Let it cool to room temp If possible, grind, sand or file the busted shank flat use a center punch to dimple the center of the bolt before you drill. 60% of the time, it works every time. -Russ |
