Steering Stabilizer/Damper Mounting

So, I bought a Moog steering stabilizer for my 72 C-10 (yes, 2wd) because I am getting a lot of bump steer, even after I overhauled the steering and suspension. Problem is the directions are almost useless. After searching I found this thread: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=220370. The pic in post 10 shows one end mounts to the steering box somehow...but it doesnt show how. Can somone please tell or show me how it attaches? Thank you

I believe that pic is of a 4x4 installation

I thought so at first too, but after re-reading it, he says it's on a C-10, not a K-10.

I saw what he said but if you look at the pics it's a 4x4 cross member

Sorry I can't help, I have only done stabilizers on 4x4. But here's a bump to keep it close to the top.

On my k20 the steering stabilizer is between the axle tube and the draglink. If you can find a place to mount the one end on the frame could you place the other on the draglink?

Re: Steering Stabilizer/Damper Mounting

steering dampner cures bump steering issues?

I always thought that was a geometry problem at the suspension extreams of travel.

4 Attachment(s)
Don't know about the 60's chevy stabilizers. But typically one end is bolted to the frame.
The other end is connected to the steering arm ends.

None of these images are Chevy C-10's, this how I have installed them on other vehicles.

Re: Steering Stabilizer/Damper Mounting

you might have to fab a bracket to mount the stabilizer to the frame but i dont know if that will cure the bump steer. i had the same problem with the blazer 4x4 but it turned out to be a combo of a loose ball joint ( didnt tighten it enough ) and a bad tire that would follow the grooves in the road

See part #11 on this page.

It looks like it has piece that bolts to the frame.

Re: Steering Stabilizer/Damper Mounting

my old 64 lemans had one from the factory

the stationary bracket was samwitched between the PS box and the frame.

the moving part was bolted by u-bolts to the center link

make sure the dampner you use allows enough travel in both directions. and does not bottom out when you go full lock to lock in either direction.

Thanks guys, I'll see what I can figure out. I've already seen that LMC page, but the steering box is in the way of what I want to see. Lol

Thanks again

Re: Steering Stabilizer/Damper Mounting

Here's an update for anyone who may be interested. I've had the damper on my daily driver for over a month now, and I gotta say, the difference is almost imperceptible. The only real difference I see is the loss of return to center for the front wheels. So is this a worthwhile upgrade? Maybe not, but I guess it wouldn't hurt.

I'm looking to install a steering stabilizer on my 67 c10. Could you post some pictures of how you installed yours?
