No worries, that was just Rik's artwork on Cole Porter's old truck in one of those "what if" deals. Rik is quite an accomplished photoshop or what ever he uses artist who does a lot of concept work for folks and has the www.customcronicals.com That features traditional customs.

I like chameleon paint on some vehicles. The best chameleon paint job I have seen caused a couple of guys who were together but standing about ten feet a part to argue what color the car was. I was taking photos of it and that thing changed color every time you moved a few feet. I'm not a fan of that style of flames but I'd bet it is fun to watch go down the street and have them change colors.

I was a paint rep when that came out, it was about $300 a pint as I remember! I have a half pint of it in my garage.

I found that $$$$ issue with the paint I want for my 48. Not only spendy and even though it is a factory color it is said to be a real task to shoot it. I've got two former students who are seriously good with a paint gun or one of my daughter's gal friends is a trained custom painter who does lowriders and she might shoot it.

I really like the dark blue one a few posts up.
I quickly checked while picking up some body supplies. the 3 stage base clear with the tinted clear middle coat, is about 2g just for the paint and clear. so base coat, tinted clear then clear clear, 2g's please. that's not including primer or anything else. jeez.
I sure like that ford/mazda ruby red though. or the chevy Cajun red tint coat. maybe with a little more tinted clear towards the lower section of the truck to fade to dark. add in a subtle chameleon ghost flame job across the hood...…could be interesting.

I also like a good solid color paint job. not sure what I'll do this time.

I'd have to say that there are too many who subscribe to the school of radical hard chop on all too many vehicle. = Some guy a bit out of the loop wants to chop his AD truck and sees a bunch of photos of Rolling Bones coupes and Sedans posing at Bonneville so he decides he has to do a "hard chop" on his truck to make it radical.

I don't know what the chop is on Cole Porter's old Salinas Boy's truck that he drove for years on end before selling it to Jesse James. It looks right in that you really see the whole truck before you see the chop.

I agree 100% on the bulbous nose thing though and that often gets accented when guys remove the bullnose and fill the seam along with removing the emblem

personally I dont like the look when the wind shield posts are leaned back and the chop is 4 - 6". It looks like Cole Porter's may have about a 2" drop with the windshield posts at the factory angle. Mr 48 is right - you see the whole truck before you see the chop.

I don't have a decent side shot of my 48 but it is chopped 4 inches with the posts raked so I didn't have to cut the top in two and add a section.

This time around I am not planning to rake the posts because it will save a lot of hours reshaping the door tops and the inside and outside moldings around the windows. Plus since I am stretching the cab it makes it unnecessary to lean the posts to save cutting the top.

I have probably told you, I personally gave him the paint that is on that truck when I was a paint rep. I used to stop by his shop.
