Landon Carter Weber Carb Tuning
 
I am going to put the V8 in the 50, but would really like to get a better tune on my dual carter weber carbs in the mean time.

I live at 8000 feet and truck is still popcorn fart lean. Do any of you running this set up have a contact for jetting advice?

I think I may need to go as much as 20 % richer

It's Tom Langdon not landon though.

I don't remember worhing on those carbs in their original application and dont know much about them.

Yep, realized I spelled Tom's name wrong when I read my sent post. I have bought a lot of stuff from him, but frankly was a bit disappointed that he had no jetting info on the carbs despite selling 3000 of them.

I'll look at these and see if I can glean any info. Lots of parts in these and trying to keep changes to a minimum Thanks for the info

I'd bet that 90% of the guys who buy them and that setup set the idle speed and idle mixture and never make any other changes to them. They don't have to deal with the air at 7000 ft that you do.

Searching you out on the map I see that I got fairly close when I pulled a 16 ft Uhaul over 550 behind my 48 in 1977. Now I know why that 283 was huffing and puffing a bit.

I don't know what the original application for those carbs was but I'd be finding that out and searching out owners groups forums to lurk and snoop the carb info.

Going back to that old HAMB thread the photo shows that there are two jets in the carb that should be simple to change.

There are four ports in the center of the carb. Two have long tubes that run down to the bottom and have removable jets (I think they are jet) The tops of the center tubes are numbered but hard to see any numbers on the inserts that go in them the two outside ones also have inserts in the tubes but are shorter in the bottoms. Not sure if these are emulsion tubes or what. at my altitude, I too expected to have to lean this out as fuel at sea level would be for too great up here. Is the opposite. I pop and bang at 5000' feet in Albuquerque and plugs have no tan on them. There is a guy in Albuquerque that has a carb shop that might be able to point me in the right direction, but I imagine I need to change the inserts in the bottom of the tubes. Threads are kinda tricky as the jet tubes were "set" in place with a punch on either side of them.
