Didn't delve any deeper than taking the photo. I'll pull the cowl screens to look closer . Need to wax under there anyway:lol:

It touches the hood and is a goofy ground I believe.

Thought that could be too. But what needs to be grounded on the hood? And there is a very strong ground on the hinges . Spring makes a good ground from hood to fender.

Yes it is a ground strap. Chevy used this on Corvettes that grounded the Air
Cleaner base and the Ignition Shielding. See Picture Below. Larry:chevy:

Light mounted on the hood? Pretty sure on my 97, there was a ground strap for the light.

No light but when you lift the hood the ground would be cut as it only hits when its closed.

It's a ground strap.

It helps with radio function (reduced static as a result of the hood functioning as an antenna).

KEITH,
Do you know if this is specific to burbs? or is it on all models (trucks) with glass antenna? I don't believe my truck has one...

Okay so now I know. Mine has the stupid glass antenna. Great in the flat lands works for **** in the mountains. But it's the original glass .

another thing I noticed Mark ..is your hood seal is on the cowl on your 77...my 81 the cowl seal is on the hood...but mine has a hole in the firewall cowl area that looks like its where your strap is mounted..

1980 and 1981 z28 has it to ground the air induction. my guess a ground for the hood light.

The hood is part of the ground plane, if its floating with respect to the other body parts the radio reception will get funky in one way or another as you travel. Think CB antennas, best spot for the antenna is dead center of the roof, provides the best reception/transmission for the antenna to radiate in all directions, vs mirror mounted antenas, or bumper mounted antennas where the ground plane only exists in one direction, rx/dx will favor a specific direction based on where the ground plane is.

Thank you.

You can likely attach a braided ground strap from the firewall to a hinge bolt on both sides and get the same result.
