when it comes to tractors, i want the new stuff. shortly before i escaped farm country, we had an 8520. it was by far the nicest tractor i had ever done work in. made a long night with a five gang v ripper much less fatiguing. and talk about a combine chaser. you could haul a 1000bu cart with that thing and not even know it was there. i really like the 4960s we had(i'd be scared to think of the number of hours i slept behind the wheel of one of those!), and the 4440 that was repowered with a 7220 oil burner was a riot to drive, but id still get in the new one any day over any of the others. to damn many days on a harrow or rake in the 4020 or 4440. but, i cut my teeth on red(and white) tractors, so if i really want to talk about nice implements...

Sorry, but when the Ryans discuss tractors, all I can picture is this:

The only problem with the 4850 is the stupid leaking ZF front axle! 4960 or 8400 all the way!

That looks like so much fun. I was laughing my *** off through the whole video. I would need a roll cage and I would have had it on it's side or top within the first minute. As for the Ryan's, well it is orange.

When I first watched that video I was for sure he was going to roll that unit or at least break an axle. I can't have tractor thoughts in my head without a divorce.

Since this forum is for diesel conversions, here's one of our creations. Its built on an old White cab over freight truck frame. Has an 1160 cat motor with a 653? allison trans. Drug an old John Deere swather home for some bits and pieces. Its pretty handy around the farm. Everyone around here calls them truck loaders, there's probably a dozen or two running around here. You actually drive them backwards down the road. My friend got pulled over by a state cop for speeding on his, he was doing 65 on a 55 mph road. His doesnt have a cab just a platform, was pretty funny. I put air horns on it to wake the kids in the semi up so they can pull ahead as we load hay on it, very effective!

I started messing with my trans wiring harness the other day. I am mounting the tcm on the firewall and ran the 20 wires that will go from the tcm to the trans, I cant do both ends of that section of harness because I need the cab on to get closer on the length of those wires. I cant put my cab on because its still sitting on my trailer over at my friends house waiting to be blasted so I can undercoat it. He cant blast it because we have had a bunch of wet weather the past few weeks and the high humidity messes up the sand blaster. The terminals I ordered about a month ago finally came in the other day so I spent half the evening learning how to use my hewdy dewdy 320 dollar wire crimpers and the other half trying to figure out how the 80 pin tcm connector goes together, all in all a productive and somewhat frustrating evening. Now I'm stuck back at waiting for my cab....

Glad to see your still getting some stuff done. After looking at what your doing to wire your transmission makes mine look like easy. It's suppose to warm up a little here next week.

Got some stuff done on the core support and radiator. Also got the upper hose figured out, had to use a stock upper hose off the radiator then use a 90 degree elbow to come off the water outlet on the motor. I needed to splice the two together with a piece of 1 3/4 exhaust tubing and whipped up this little tool for stamping a bead on the tubing to help hold the hoses on, worked pretty good.

Well today turned out to be a good day. I got my cab back from the sandblaster thurs night and had big plans to take yesterday afternoon off work and get it undercoated but it didnt work out. The weather forecast for fri was sunshine and light winds but the wind blew 30 mph all afternoon and because I have to paint underneath stuff outside,it was a no go. The forcast for today was cloudy and windy and it is supposed to stay that way for a week, yuk! I got ready to do it just in case the weather guy was wrong and I lucked out. By 11 am it was 60 degrees, sunny and no wind so I got it done!! I used the ton straw bales for safety stands so I dared work underneath it,held it up a few inches off the bales so I could get to everything. The only thing I am kinda bummed about is the "red" my buddy gave me to tint the U-POL bedliner with turned out to be kind of purple looking. I guess after it gets oil splattered and muddy, ect,it will look ok....

The weather stayed nice for part of the afternoon so after the cab dried a couple of hours, I rolled the chassis outside and got the cab bolted down. Grabbed the fenders and got them stuck on and rolled it back in the shop just as it started to blow and rain. Its exciting to see it start looking like a pickup again!

Re: 86 chevy crew cab 12 valve swap

The truck is looking really good! It is a great cab when you only have to spray after sandblasting. No chance of that ever happening around here. What did you use to prep/paint the sandblasted area? Did you apply tinted bed liner directly onto the bare metal? I will be doing this to my cab real soon also. Again looks real good :metal:

Great work and that is a huge step forward on the build!

Re: 86 chevy crew cab 12 valve swap

The cab is in pretty good shape. My friend that sandblasted it gave me some epoxy primer to spray first but he also said he does rinolining on bare metal. The epoxy he had says you are supposed to mix it up then wait one hour, spray it, then wait 3 hours before you undercoat over it. I thought if he sprays rinolining on bare metal and its fine, I will try that with this stuff. Its not going to be having things loaded on it or drug across it like a bed would anyway and I didnt think I had that much time given the forecast so I just gave it two good coats and called it good.

I went junkyarding fri and got a few bits and pieces for intake tubing. Coming off the turbo, the cast elbow isnt quite 90 degrees and a 90 degree elbow would make the connection lots better and keep the piping out of the inner fender. I found a pic of the elbow I need but dont know where to get it from. Any Ideas?
