Re: 68 Burb - Project - GoldMember
I found this thread that talks about Suburban seats, and it looks just like the one I took out. Not sure if there is much else I can add, but maybe a picture or two with where the mounting holes are.. If you need that, i'd be happy to take some

Re: 68 Burb - Project - GoldMember
Hey Rob,
Some updates coming, been a busy year for me.. Still working on trucks, just never my own.. I have cleared the shop of extra projects and have the burb on tap for some renewed interest beginning this weekend. I did drag out a few things as the clean-up was happening.. Only took a couple pics though.. https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8733/...1d1b83_z_d.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8338/...636f15_z_d.jpg |

Been looking at that unit myself. Can wait to hear how it all goes together for you.

Re: 68 Burb - Project - GoldMember
Worked a bit on Saturday cleaning up wiring and air line routing, then spent a fair amount of time repairing the dash where the original owner had put a f@rd radio in.. Forgot to take pics except for this one.

I really like the way the engine is coming together (the rest too).

Post #40 - that wasn't a Clasen Morse badge, was it? If so, I'd love to get my hands on it.

Re: 68 Burb - Project - GoldMember
Started mock-up of the Fuel Command Center, borrowing from steveo3318 installation I began by making a rough template from 3/16 aluminum to mount on the core support right next to the driver side headlight.
I drilled and temporarily mounted the brackets for a trial fit. https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8780/...10e714_z_d.jpg https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8826/...47999a_z_d.jpg Then I drilled and temp mounted the unit on the core support to make sure I would have enough clearance for both the fuel lines, and still be able to plug the parking/turn lamp harness into the hole passing through the support. Everything looks good at this point. All that's left is to finish trim the shape and size of the bracket, the apply paint! https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5036/...9dbe47_z_d.jpghttps://farm9.staticflickr.com/8366/...e98d5f_z_d.jpg |

Nice progress!

Re: 68 Burb - Project - GoldMember
Thanks,
Slow and steady.. Been traveling for work which slows things down of course.. Lots of little stuff not documented yet so I'll have a bigger update in a week or so, I'm itching to get this back on it's feet so I can get back to work on Trippin Hazard.. |
Re: 68 Burb - Project - GoldMember
Been making my way through the little things, which of course is a long list, even on this non frame off redo...
Finished the rear ride height sensor install, something I kept putting off for no good reason. I also took the fresh air vents apart, replaced the foam on one of them, then cleaned and sealed everything with some satin clear. Forgot pics, will update tonight.. I also finished the repair work on the dash, it's ready for final primer, https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5489/...44ab82_z_d.jpg Then I figured I would go ahead and tackle the console now while I had all the cleaning and paint supply handy. Here is what I started with. https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5505/...d0ffce_z_d.jpghttps://farm9.staticflickr.com/8661/...d6d183_z_d.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5803/...57d548_z_d.jpg Holy crap was it filthy! I can't say enough about the Key Parts De-greaser I purchased awhile back, that along with a green scotchbrite make fairly quick work of the mess. I finished the night with the lid and mid section in primer.. We are having a fairly stout wind and rain storm passing over this week, and I lost power for a few minutes, took that as a sign to turn in and get some sleep.. Oh, almost forgot, I dug into my secret stash bins and pulled out some dashes.. Figured I would go ahead and put together a Tach, Vac, Speedwarning cluster with a Choke Delete!... Should look pretty nice for this old girl. That i'll do this weekend while watching the WSU Cougs play.. |

Re: 68 Burb - Project - GoldMember
Busy weekend around the house, still clearing trees that threaten the house and shop, after we had some big winds this week, I hate to think what would happen if my luck runs short so out came the Stihl... Anyway that took most of my weekend.
I did get a few things moving forward, My son cleaned the 700 transmission, after which I installed new seals and filter. She's now ready to mate to the engine. Put the console in first primer, and after pondering it awhile, I think I have an idea for where to mount the eLevel controller.. (more to come on that actually using the small hole in the bottom corner..;) https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5731/...06bd4d_z_d.jpg So, I had just put down the first coat of satin black on the upper dash, when my son opened the main shop door and a huge wind gust blew crap in everywhere!.. so, some redo tonight :-( And finally, I figured I would pull together all my dash parts and construct a dash.. here is the near final result. https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5822/...dc4e45_z_d.jpg I wish I had a nice original speed warning bezel with no Choke label, but oh well.. All that's left is to paint the Choke delete recessed area, drill the cable hole and install it. Lastly, I cleaned out all the misc stuff in the Burb so I can seal the wood floor in the back, and measure out how/where I want to put the subwoofer box. Waiting on a few small items to show up, then the engine will be ready to go in and get a driveshaft measurement. |
Re: 68 Burb - Project - GoldMember
Been too long since I have posted any updates, I have the typical excuses with one addition.
It was announced in November that the company I work for is being purchased.. Needless to say it has been a roller coaster ride ever since that announcement. As I am a middle mgmt. guy, preparing for “integration” has consumed my every waking moment for months! I get the feeling this is what it’s like to enter the BORG Collective! Anyway, some things have been happening in spite of the long hours, and as with every one of my projects that seem to drag on forever, this one is no different. Baby steps right... So here is the latest in Big changes.. Drive-train update! 1. My son got his hands on an LM4 (all aluminum 5.3 from a Trailblazer) and presented it to me for my birthday.. 2. I then picked up a 4L80e to back it up from a 2009 Express van I've since collected all the parts for rebuild / upgrade at got started on the engine * Rings, bearing, gaskets * Modded factory DBW harness & ECU (I’ll setup with HP Tuners) * TSP Stage 3 Low Lift Cam: 216/220, .550"/.550" * LS6 Valve Springs * Brian Tooley pushrods (new but from another build) * Trunion upgrade * Muscle Car Oil Pan Here is how she looked when he picked her up https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5682/...8ed55d_z_d.jpg and just some of the parts getting cleaned and sorted https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5814/...9fc50c_m_d.jpghttps://farm6.staticflickr.com/5642/...127e26_m_d.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5646/...4d9e12_m_d.jpghttps://farm6.staticflickr.com/5826/...ba9d7a_m_d.jpg https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5705/...454d0d_m_d.jpghttps://farm6.staticflickr.com/5577/...d2f382_m_d.jpg Progress to continue of course, but I also have to get ready for the April Swat meet as I will be taking a crap ton of stuff to sell including my 67 K10 SWB. All of that is currently tucked away in storage. |

So are you going to drop the engine you built for it in one of your other projects?

Re: 68 Burb - Project - GoldMember
Thanks,
Can't wait till I know whether or not I'm still employed so I can get back on it with more regularity... Needs to be on the road like now! |
