Chime/audible module

1 Attachment(s)
I need someone to double check me. I have the attached chimes/audio module and I'm looking to see if this the right part number (22529441) for my truck. I'm not sure where this came from and it works great for headlight chime in key in Ignition chime. But it does not work for seatbelt chime. If anybody can check my part number and make sure it's right for an 85 Chevy pickup I would be grateful. If it's the right part number, I think it might be faulty.
Thank you.
Jay

Further development
The chime module bench tested as bad. So that will have to be replaced.

Also the seat belt retractor wire tested bad as well. It always thinks the belt is buckled so it will not set off the chime or warning light on the dash. If anyone knows how the retractor signal wite works, please le me know

Re: Chime/audible module

Well I took the retractor apart. I cleaned up a small contact switch and adjusted it by bending the contacts in-and-out and got it to work perfectly. Got a chime module from a 4 gen firebird. Now it's back in the truck, light comes on and the chime works just like it should.

Re: Chime/audible module

Well, I thought I was done...but no. Now the light just stays on all the time no matter how far you pull the seat belt out. The belt should come out about 6 inches and the contact on the switch should open the circuit. Well, mine is so FUBAR that it's just closed all the time. Took it apart again and the switch is toast, plastic disintegrated and broken. Now I will just have to find a better switch on another seat belt retractor. If anyone has one let me know belt condition and plastic cover dont matter. Just the switch is important.
Thanks
Jay

Bad news, No Trucks in Pull-a-part with seat belts. So rather than fix the seat belt switch, I took an easier route. I swapped out the box for 1991-1996 Roadmaster/Caprice box. P/N 10092866

It works great but has some differences from the truck one:
  1. The original Truck one had a solid tone that sounds like a flat line on a heart monitor. The new box has a pleasant Ding-Ding sound that get faster if you leave the light on or the key in the ignition.
  2. The seat belt light is controlled by the box, not the seat belt retractor like the original was. The new box lights the seat belt light on the dash and dings for 5 seconds then both go off together. On the original chime box, the tone would go off after 10 second but the light would stay lit until the seat belt was puled out and the switch opened. Which was a problem with my switch. If i disconnected the retractor, neither the light nor the dinger would work. (thinking I already fasten my belt.)
  3. This new box has an additional 2 wire plug. This is for the turn signal minder option on the Roadmaster or Caprice. If you travel a preset distance with the turn signal on, it will start to ding until the turn signal is turned off. Helpful on a Buick for sure. This plug just needs a signal from the electric speedo and the turn signals. Even though I have electric speedo, I will probably leave it off.

However, for my intended purpose, it works great. The seat belt warning, Key in ignition warning and headlight on warning all work. And I didn't have to replace or recreate the retractor switch. Its alot of trouble just to have the warnings work, but I like it to see things work when they can. Also, during COVID, I had nothing better to do.

Do you think the 1991-1996 Roadmaster/Caprice box. P/N 10092866 module could be adapted for headlight left on for my old 70?

I have a Radio Shack buzzer now but a nice chime would be better.

Thanks

Yes, it could be adopted for your 70. However your truck lacks some of the systems to make it fully functional. (Seat belt light, key in ignition warning)

But it could be widdled down to the basics for the headlight minder.

First thing is that for your case, a chime module from a 4th gen F-body (Camaro/Fiebird) might be easier to find and wire. It looks like the tan/brown one pictured. P/N 14101255. Make sure it has 7 pins to get the headlight minder option.

I also attached the entire wiring callout, but you would only be concerned in 4 pins. C,D,F,H.

C=12v Battery
D=Parking Lts 12v when on
F=Ground
H=Key on / ignition 12v

Just for reference: there is no A pin.

This will yield you just the headlight alarm. It will only sound with parking lts/headlights on and key off.

Hope this helps,
Jay

If it looks like this 6 pin one, it does NOT have the headlight minder option.

I used this one, these came from the 88 and up trucks. They have the headlight buzzer.

Thanks for comebacks. Don't know these new cars - are years 98 to 02?
