1938 gmc t155 (my ongoing project)
 

hello, every one I am new to the forum so i figured i would post up my on going project,
it is a 1938 GMC T155 1-1/4 ton that had a long box installed on it for use on the family farm in northwest oregon near mist OR it was origionaly bought in Vernonia Or, in 1938 from the chevy GMC dealer ship (now gary meyers autobody) i have paper work for the WWII fuel rations, i was also give a picture of it with the dealer ship in the background (cant find :( ) i have a title from 1965? i think and i also have a 1942 oregon licenceplate that was still bolted to the bumper lol... the truck was given to me when i was nine and has been in the family since 1938 my uncle in-law recieved it when he was nine so its kind of a tradition (that might stop with me lol)...
as of now the truck is in peices because I am currently serving in the AF and my dad doesn't have enough time get it worked on, before i shipped out we had built mounts for a v8, t-5 5speed and a custom built flat bed, and sanded the 3+ inches of bondo onthe roof of the cab, lol
so plans are to make it a tribute to my uncle that gave it to me, he was murdered in 2008 by his soon to be ex wife... so i plan to paint it up like his old log truck and place pictures of him as a nine year old and as 41 year old, then what? i really dont know...
I'm looking for all kinds of parts so let me know where i can find them...

plans are to keep the front as stock as possible and as for the rear i need to either update it with a dana 70 or keep it stock the only issue if i keep it stock is going to be the gearing... for the small block i have for it it will be wound out at about 50 so... i don't really know if they make different gearing for the rear or not but we'll see when i actualy get a chance to really get started on it,
I REALLY WANT TO KEEP THE WHEELS, I love the way they look!
so thats the biggest stipulation to the suspension keep the wheels and at the same time update it slightly,

what would be a good sugesstion for the suspension if i do go all the way and update it completely?

TTT plans are forming for a cummins and a nv4500, a newer dually rear end, found a guy that will re-drill my wheels to fit the standard 8x6.5 bolt pattern of a moddern 8 lug, i'll be going on vacation in october to see my new neice and to get some much needed POR 15 on the frame and axles, will be looking for a motor while we are up there

please note that this truck is in oregon and i am stationed in tucson Az, so its a slow going build!

You better get a different front suspension along with disc brakes on it, the v8 will propell it pretty good, but that cummins weigh a ton and has a !@#load of tourque.

yes the frame and springs cannot handle 1000+ pounds, the flathead this came with is around 500 lb. a 270 ohv GMC is 675--about the same as a BBC

I hope the plans are still to fix this truck. The newer dually bud wheels should fit right on this truck if it is 8 lug. If it was 5 then they will not. These wheels look to be the same as on my '50 dually and newer 8lug wheels will fit them. There is also a kit being made now to put disk brakes on the 1 ton axles. I am putting a 14 bolt ton rear in my '50 for better gearing. They do not make any replacement gears for the early ho52/72 rear ends and the originals are hard to find with high gears.
