Differential Pinion Shaft Lock Bolt

1 Attachment(s)
Should it be difficult to find a pinion shaft lock bolt for a 1969 C10 with a 12-bolt 3.08 economy differential? I am trying to look it up at my local car parts store and not finding it. It seems like it would be common. There are 3 completely different looking ones on Rock Auto, so I wouldn't know yet which one to get, but I would really rather just go up to the auto parts store. I can't find a Dorman number.

I still need to drill and easy out mine, I guess I'll order an extract kit with a long drill bit. I've been watching this video about dealing with it. https://youtu.be/gyu0otJxiwM

Thanks. Do you think it should be OK to get even if their website says "This Does not fit your: 1969 Chevrolet C10 1/2 Ton - Pickup"

I've used it my self . Not sure why they don't list it that way.

Excellent, thanks, it is good to have a confirmation.

Maybe try a left-hand drill bit first. I was able to un-thread the remains in my 94 rearend with a pick, avoiding the extract kit completely.

I've got a few of them in my garage--brand new-- I think they're about 9.00 each plus the ride

What is the story about interchangeability and fitment of these? Are there certain ones to avoid or favor? How picky should I be about it? Are the correct ones not reproduced? I have a friend who sent me a picture of one he has on hand and he has an extractor kit, but he's across town and I have not seen him in person yet to take him up on his offer. It looks like the NAPA one. The broken one I'm taking out has a plain hex head.

I got the old one out by doing some late night mechanic work. I made my own drill guide by drilling the broken bolt through from the shank end with a 1/8 bit. I used a center punch to mark the center best I could and drilled as strait as I could. It came out pretty nice. Then I screwed that into the hole and it guided me to the center of the broken off pin with my small Ingersoll Rand air drill. Slow speed drilling, added oil to the bit and gathered shavings often. I made a little flag out of tape that I put on the drill bit so I would know how deep into the broken pin I was going. I figured I needed about 1/4 inch deep for the easy out to work. Then I used the #1 easy out with my smallest adjustable wrench, and was gentle as a lamb and no cussing because I didn't want to break that easy out bit, what a mess that would be. When it gave resistance I used a mini butane torch to heat up the bolt area, and then it eased out. The old pin is 2 inch shank and 2.25 inches total length. 5/16-18 thread. I am annoyed that it broke, but I guess these things break all the time, so I hear.

If you would be so kind as to fix me up with 2 of them I would very much appreciate it. If you only want to let go of 1 that would be fine. Shipping would be to the 77429 zip code. I posted a WTB ad here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=841123

Mine broke in the same spot and I also had to drill and extract it. I was able to source some NOS bolts at a dealership and bought a couple. I was surprised there was a dealership that still had some
