Saved A "Burb"

This 69 Burb was headed for parting out. Guy said if I pulled original BB and rebuilt it for his SWB I could have it . It just had a lot of potenitial. I have been in to camaro's for a long time. So I decided to do a budget build. I have a restored 69 camaro and Race an Outlaw true 10.5 camaro(fulton632). So another big budget build is not in my financial future. So I came across A 57 chevy truck
69 chevy truck (the power plant doner) and a 67 chevy truck all 3 for a deal I couldnt pass up , so I could get the parts for the burb. Then sell the other trucks. So far things are going as planned I have an engine trans wheels(plus parts) for the budget burb. I plan to treat what rust it has. Do the minor body work , lower it some and paint semi-gloss black/white top. Eventually work on interior and get some a/c for the Texas heat. I will attempt to post pics progress is going well. I have been reading message boards for years but dont post pics .

For the most parts Body is in good shape. Most of the rust in in lower door jams I think from sitting outside and the missing chrome allowing water in enter door wells. Right side rocker has some rust damage. Other wise I think had just under about 100k original miles. The original BB I pulled out had STD bore, rod and main journals.

The rough side. At this point I will treat the rust and repair it later.

The 350eng/350 trans from the doner. I had bigger plans like the moseburb cummins but that is too much work at this point maybe down the road right now I just want to get it on the road.

Does it have Minnesota plates? How did it find its way down there? Normally it's the other way around, the TX trucks head north.

Does have Minnesota plates. Dont know how it got hear found it full of post cards from the all over the south. A registration for Arizona in around 1998. But it is not rusty underneath as if it came from up north. Those plates are going on the wall I have antique TEXAS plates for it.

Some updates repaired some minor rust around cab fender mounts , sanblasted insides of fenders and core support. Cleaned frame and painted. Suspension parts had already been replaced and are in good shape.

This grill came off of the "doner" 69 truck. It had been painted. When I stripped paint found some spot puddy covering small dents. I massaged them out somewhat and pollished out grill. It was better than what I had so it has to do.

This was a big block truck with turbo400 and now has 350/turbo350 so it was setting a little high. I cut one coil off of springs which brought control arm geometry down back to normal and improved ride hight not sure if I can cut off another coil or half of coil to get it down a little lower ?

Making some progress. Still on a budget new wheel cylinders and flexible brake lines. Will upgrade to disc later. (Having some major issues uploading pictures.) Doner engine runs (does have some blowbye) trans shift ok and stopping takes some planing with drum brakes. So far the most expensive single part has been the battery at 113.00. Did find the fuel tank was beyond repair so the makeshift boat tank in floorboard will have to do for now.

I did some repairing on the roof seams recently . Still making good progress. Not any major rust issues up here just resealing and priming.

After pollishing the front bumper taking off the Minnesota plate and putting on
the TEXAS plate its starting to come around. This is a budget project with racing season going on. After selling one of the trucks I bought taking the eng/trans/radiator/wheels off the doner truck (which I still need to sell) Im only into this suburban for about $600.00 buying misc parts (brakes, battery, primer supplies etc.)

Brought the Burb home today first thing my wife says is were going to get a letter from the nieghborhood!!! I will stack them up with the rest of them.
These headers were in the back of one of the doner trucks . I had to cut the collector off and reweld tubes together then weld collector back on sealed up nicely. Moving on to body work to get it looking better to keep the wife and nieghborhood quiet! Carb came off of my street car runs smooth. Found late model internal voltage reg alternator in back of doner truck wired it up charges good. Yes that fuel line is running into floorboard to boat tank til I can get a new gas tank.
