Ice Cream Truck
 

Hello everybody just wanted to post a picture of them 69 p10 ice cream truck I built for my wife. She has been running a successful hand dipped ice cream truck in Okc for the last two years. She is about two weeks away from the start of the season and I have a long to do list. We were having issues with truck at the end of the season that I could not get worked out. I am hoping the new hei distributor will solve some of the rough idle and backfiring....its the only thing I haven't tried. I was looking for advice from experts on what might make it easier for my wife to drive like disk brakes or power steering etc. any advice would be appreciated.

I also have before and after pictures as well as build out if anyone is interested.

Hey,I love it! Very cool (no pun intended). I'd say it's fine as it has been all these years. Keep the profit in her pocket. Drum brakes work just fine,especially with the type of driving that rig does. It ain't no sports car

I was thinking the same thing.
Ohhhh....Now I get it. It's not pink paint on the top that's supposed to look like melting ice cream. It actually "is" ice cream. Maybe if it was kept in the freezers that wouldn't happen. Just a suggestion :lol:

What engine? A bad intake gasket can cause the issues you are discribing. Maybe disk brake on the front, but the biggest gain would be to add power brakes. A list of what the truck is/has would help. And if you bribe us with an ice cream cone, well, we will ALL jump in to help! And, as always, MORE PICS!

The truck is stock drum all the way around and I swapped in a 250 I6 out of a 67 truck. (Kind of a funny story) my wife found this truck on craigslist in Tennessee so I called they guy and worked out a deal. He told me it wasn't running at the time but it had been when it was parked and probably just needed minor work to get I back on the road. So we drive from Oklahoma to Tennessee about a 10 hour drive or so can't really remember. Long story short the original engine had thrown 2 rods and there were 2 massive holes punched in the block. The brakes were shot and leaking from every wheel cylinder and it looked like it had about two gallons of bondo slapped on it.. Needles to say I was a little upset. We had driven so far to get it couldn't turn back now. We made the deal are glade we did now....

The truck took 2 months to build out engine swap and all. I got the engine on cl for $100 with a leaking head gaskets. Turned out the rear head bolt had broken off so I replaced it and and it was good to go. The engine has been running ok for the most part but I never could get it to idle smooth and it has some drivability issues. Stalls at stop lights some times slow to accelerate but not all the time. Rebuilt the carb replaced the plugs cap and rotor new fuel pump and filter nothing really improved it much.... My uncle thought it might be the distributor moving in the hole so I am trying a new hei to see if that helps. Couldn't hurt right?

I was told it was originally a good humor ice cream truck.... we nicknamed it jawbreaker because it had been repainted so many times when I started sanding it looked like the layers of a jawbreaker candy. I think I counted 9 different colors. It was originally a light blue green.

My wife had a few close calls with people changing lanes and cutting her off. so a little more stopping power might not be a bad investment. Might save me some body work down the road. And parallel parking this thing without power steering is a whole different battle.
