Carpet, padding, firewall, and noise reduction options
My truck is about to come home from the shop and I only have a few interior things left to do - including carpet.
I'm going to go with a molded carpet and I would like some suggestions for noise reduction inside the cab? Is there a particular padding I should use that is better than the stock style? Also what do you recommend for the inside of the firewall? I know a few places sell the original style padding. What are your thoughts on this? Are there better options? I'd like this truck to have a quiet comfortable ride. Thanks! |
Re: Carpet, padding, firewall, and noise reduction options
The ultimate for sound reduction is going to be dynamat or similar. Before you put the carpet down clean the cab really well and stick it down and it will help out tremendously. With the carpet I would make sure it comes with some good jute backing for some comfyness and a lil sound reduction but not much. I would also purchase a new firewall molding kit and it includes the jute backing on them as well.
But again.. the dynamat is the key. Its cashy but worth the price in my book. Just my .2 cents worth. Weev- |

theres a guy on this forum that sells an equivalent to dynamat and its less expensive.

We used a product called cool-it and another product we call "Jute" then of course and new carpet on top. the truck still is loud but no where near as loud as it once was.

Some people use spray in bedliner on the firewall and inside the doors. Go even farther and use Plasti-Dip on any metal parts that make contact with each other if you want.

Excellent post I'm going to do mine soon as well.
I'm also thinking of adding carpet to the ceiling, a headliner I guess. I see you can buy them. Basically we are sitting in a tin can and sound just echos all around. Has anyone added the headliner and did it help at all? (sorry cedorris, didn't mean to hijack your thread) |
