GMC poverty caps

Did GMC have poverty hubcaps in 1967-68? And are they hard to find?

Thanks.. That give me an idea for something. Do you think that these would fit Wheel Vintiques series 62 wheels. They are knub style wheel. I'm thinking of 15x7 and 15x8 with these style caps?

These caps measure approximately 10-1/4" ID. I see them forsale once in a while even on this board. You could post a WTB for them :smoke:

I am going to run the Chevy caps with 15x8 in the rear and 15x6 in the front:metal: Nate

Yes, I have a greyish set of GMC on my walls in the garage. They are out there, just got to keep looking here on the 67-72 parts board. Mine are for decoration. You do not see the GMC type too often, but they pop up every now and then.

I have a set you can have, if you're still looking.

Have (for the mods), as in not buy.

Those are awesome! I don't need them, but for some strange reason I want them:)

Here's a crappy pic of my parts truck with poverty caps on it.

What is an essay about poverty? This essay is written on poor people living in conditions when there is no food, no clothes and no shelter. http://bigpaperwriter.com/blog/are-y...say-on-poverty Residents of third world countries are the outstanding representatives in the condition called poverty. Child poverty essay is a separate issue that may be a topic for your essay as well.

I am looking for a set of the gray painted 68 caps but have yet to see a set of "nub style" caps. Did they make 1968 nub style GMC caps? If not I can get some clip wheels but already have the nubs ready to go

Like this thread. The SPID on my 69 says the truck came with chrome hubcabs. When I got it, it had chrome hubcaps, but they are the later squarebody type. It also came with a box with 6 poverty GMC hubcaps for a 69, in perfect shape, but they are painted. Does anyone know how to get the original paint look back?

I like this thread, too . No, I didn't misunderstand. I'm lovin' it because it's old as the hills in the first place and it was a conversation/info thread about the hubcaps. Of all things, a doggone scammer brings it back today. How they chose a 5 year old thread beats me. So, a good ole boy comes right along and busts them. Next, we get the good ole non-subscriber using a message board thread for a chance to post a WTB, then we see something totally normal. A member responding with helpful info on the subject and his own question..........only it's five years old!!* (which is perfectly fine)

* No hard feelings I hope. It's all things combined

EDIT: Shoot, I almost forgot to report the spammer.....Seeya!

Back to normal. Probably just use stripper, fix dents if needed, polish, and detail paint. I think airbrush would get best factory result, but you could mask and paint. What condition are they in? Can you show pictures?

Oh, and how much ya want for 'em?

Tim,

Not posting a WTB, just asking a question about different styles of caps.. I was getting ready to make a new thread and saw this pop up, figured I'd chime in and see what everyone said. Always try to use existing threads when possible

We have all heard the term "poverty caps" used countless times in the car culture to describe the small hubcap or base model hubcap. IMO, the term was always inaccurate and insulting as well. It was to be construed as "poor people buy models with small hubcaps". In reality, small hubcaps were the norm on most base and deluxe pickup trucks till the 90's, when styled wheels took over in most lines.

They're not poverty no more! These NOS ones went for $1500 on eBay!

Since there were no rally wheels for our trucks, your choices really were between painted and chrome/stainless caps, correct? And that choice was likely tied to the model/edition, as I've never seen a base truck with "fancier chrome caps" on the SPID, for example.

Here's my SPID. Will take photos of the painted dog dishes later, but not trying to sell them, sorry.

The dog dishes I have have been painted all over the same white as the white on the truck. They don't look as though they were ever chromed. Absolutely perfect condition otherwise. Looks like painting in the GMC and the circle might be beyond my skill level.

I believe the term had its origin with cars not trucks. The simple cap was the upgrade in trucks until the 70's. Whereas my GTO came with the simple cap that was the lowest possible cost wheel available. Making it the cheap version that sat on the back lot, not the showroom floor. My dad at one point mentioned that hubcaps were very important to how people regarded cars in the 50's and the small ones were looked down. Its the same old story about money.

Re: GMC poverty caps

Well now I've seen a SPID with optional hubcaps, pretty sure I'd never seen that before!

My Dad's 68 GMC 910 had painted hubcaps to match the painted grill and painted bumper... no chrome on that vehicle at all, really!

Re: GMC poverty caps

I always thought they were called poverty caps because hobos ate hot beans out of the ones they found along side the road
