HELP wiring gurus

So the dome lights in my 1990 GMC Suburban are having some real issues. The only one that works is the courtesy light under the dash. I was able to get the other ones to come on if there was something plugged into the cigarette lighter and I turned on the vanity mirror in the passenger sun visor. Odd combination. Any way the headlight switch and the door switches don't turn on anything other than the courtesy light. I am kind of wondering if the courtesy light is even still wired up like it was from the factory but it must at least partially be with the door switches turning it on. It has the factory overhead console deal and a light in the back mounted on the rear A/C cover. Any and all help is appreciated.

Ok I traced an orange wire from the dome lights back to the fuse box. No power anywhere along it. How do I go about pulling the fuse box out to check if its connected to the fuse block? Also I get power with the fuse in and the courtesy light under the dash works and quits when the fuse is inserted/pulled.
