How rare is the GMC Sierra Grande?

2 Attachment(s)
Can anyone out there tell me how rare or unique a GMC SierraGrande might be? Most people prefer the Chevy Cheyenne and Cheyenne super, I have a 1971 Gmc sierragrande shortbed fleetside that I cannot find any info on such as: productions figures, paint schemes, interior options, etc...., Mine has factory cruise control, a factory two-tone paint job, upper and lower moldings, woodgrain dash bezel and glovebox door, factory gauges with a speedwarning buzzer, bucket seats, center console and lap & shoulder seat belts, also it has a/c. I bought this truck at a good price ($2,500.00) while searching for a factory big block cheyenne super, it was too hard to pass up on this deal (especially when the ad said that it didn't run and it did) If anyone can shed me some light on this mystery I would greatly appreciate it. THANKS! Sorry i don't have any interior pics yet.

Nice Truck!
Looks like someone put allot of time into it. The chrome trim with red stripe is nice looking. First Sierra Grande I have ever seen with a short bed. Sounds like allot of the options are of a S.G. . I noticed the green one in the back ground, what is it? GMC had a fire way back when and lost allot of info on the GMC side of our trucks. Longhornman will be a good reference on asking about your truck.

By the way this truck unrestored, it still needs to be restored

Nice truck!:metal: And thanks for asking this question. I just got a 71 GMC Sierra Grand myself a few weeks ago. Mine doesn’t have some of the stuff you listed so I think it’s mostly optional. My truck came with the original order form listing the options he wanted, the original dealer brochure, and protect o plate.
What motor does yours have?
Mine is an invader 350 with 350 auto. Mine is all one color (green metallic) it has wood grain strips on the door panels but not on the dash anywhere. It also has a head liner –which I think is something that comes with the SG package.
I know the seats were optional for sure along with A/C and most likely cruse.

BTW, is it a leaf spring or coil? Mine is coil.

Cruise control and shoulder belts? Those are some rare options on a good clean shortbed with air. I couldn't have passed up that deal even if it didn't run.

Re: How rare is the GMC Sierra Grande?

DMX84, you have one great looking rig! My truck has the invader 350 with 350 auto, and the headliner also. Does yours have the tilt column?

Re: How rare is the GMC Sierra Grande?

Its got coils?

Re: How rare is the GMC Sierra Grande?

I could be wrong, but I thought the GMC Sierra Grande was a similar or identically loaded truck to a Chevy Cheyenne Super.

Anyway, Super Nice Truck! & Super Sweet Price Too!

Re: How rare is the GMC Sierra Grande?

From the factory brochure says it optional, and mine does not have it.
Mine has carpet witch might be standard with the SG pkg.

Re: How rare is the GMC Sierra Grande?

My Sierra Grande is missing a bunch of the options yours has, original green with the 402, th400 combo, coils. No tilt, air, headliner, pretty low option.

Re: How rare is the GMC Sierra Grande?

The only equipment that ALWAYS comes on a Sierra Grande are:
upper & lower mouldings(woodgrain lower), woodgrain dash, woodgrain glovebox, woodgrain door panels(72), Houndstooth seat, sport mirrors, and the "Sierra Grande" emblems. All the rest of the equipment is optional, just like the Cheyenne.

That is VERY unusual not to have a headliner!

Re: How rare is the GMC Sierra Grande?

You'll never know how many grande trucks were made, the documents were lost. That IS a rare find however. GMC trucks were more likely to be middle of the road as far as options... they were built more for work than play.
You say your truck is unrestored... there's a few items that are not original, and make me think some one has done a restore... or a lot of repair/parts swapping on it.
That tail gate is a recent aftermarket piece, the side trim should have wood grain... not a bright finish like it does, and that speed warning wasn't avalible after 69. The mirrors and wheels were also added later too.
Please don't get me wrong...that is a super sweet truck, and I can only hope that mine will be that nice one day... but there's a good chance that many of those were added. Is the option list still in the glove box by chance?
The wood grain you mentioned is correct for the Grande, as is the upper and lower (with woodgrain) moldings, the 2 tone and guages...all part of the package. The A/C, buckets W/console, shoulder belts...all added options on top of the package.

Texasdeere 01-04-2007 11:43 PM

Re: How rare is the GMC Sierra Grande?

So are you saying that the Grande is the same trim level as a Cheyenne or a Cheyenne Super?

Longhorn Man 01-04-2007 11:45 PM

Re: How rare is the GMC Sierra Grande?

headliner, tailgate band, bright trim on the windows, on the control knobs, on the pedals... carpet... all part of the package. Acc guages too like I mentioned before.
It is the same as a Cheyenne super.

DMX84 01-04-2007 11:55 PM

Re: How rare is the GMC Sierra Grande?

My dash has no wood grain on anything, it’s a two tone green but looks really nice IMO.

MT1972cheyenne 01-05-2007 12:01 AM

Re: How rare is the GMC Sierra Grande?

Thanks Longhorn, I missed a few. What do you make of RYAN'70 not having a headliner in his Sierra Grande
The "Sierra" is the same as a "Cheyenne". The "Grande" is the same as a "Super".

Re: How rare is the GMC Sierra Grande?

Thanks Longhorn Man for some insight on this topic, the owner that I bought the truck from had removed the GMC tailgate band and had the holes covered up(why I don't know?) and he also took some steel wool pads and buffed out the woodgain out of the moldings. My truck is a '71 wouldn't that make it correct for that year to have the speed warning system, or the gmc rally wheels

Longhorn70gmc, the green pickup in the background is my dad's 1969 c-20 longbed with a 350 and a four speed combo is pretty original has only 60,000 original miles on it. Dad bought it for $800.00 because it didn't run, all we did was put a new timing chain it and gave it a tune-up also and it fired up! Body is very straight and has no rust. Best $800.00 bucks every spent I think, I posted some pics of it tell me what you think?
