Well, I've waited long enough. Time to contribute to this board. Here is what I've been working on for the past year and a half. Hope you like it.

Here is how I found it and what I first did to it or what I took off of it last March. It was a old farm truck used for moving goats here in New Mexico. I pulled a fur like substance off of just about everything when I started pulling it apart.

Well that was the 292 L6 that was in it. I wanted to keep that thing but gas mialage and lack of parts made me rethink my decision. I had a 64 C-10 before I joined the USAF 5 years ago but never got to do what I wanted to do to it so now was the time. I decided to go with the stock front springs, 2 1/2'' drop spindles up front and 4'' drop springs in the rear. Also at this time I decided to do disk brakes and all new brake lines. Steel braided from the master cylinder and from the upper control arm to the caliper. I had to extend the rod from the booster to the pedal by about 2 or so inches. I went down to the local Albuquerque metal shop and had them make me a $10 par that had the right size holes. (A piece of 1/4 inch flat metal with 2 holes) I used the upper and lower control arms and calipers off of an 85 C-10. New bushings all round and rebuilt calipers from NAPA. (My NAPA guys know me WAY too well now, we joke it's sponsored by them)

Well while pulling out the heavy old 4 speed we noticed that the rear diff. was very sloppy. SO I decided to get that rebuilt at the same time I got the T-5 rebuilt. Thinking back on it I would have put the more modern 12 bolt under it or a Ford 9'' but, I just got back from Japan and needed wheels yesterday so I went with what I had, the old 64 diff. One thing I didn't know at the time of getting this diff. rebuilt (but was told by my re builder) is that back in 64, they didn't go by the number of bolts for ordering parts, they went by the size of the diff. Maybe that info might help someone later on...

I did some reading on transmissions and opted for the T-5. All my planning at this time was done for keeping the 292 L6 rather than moving to the V8. So the T-5 fitted my needs. It came out of an 80 something S-10. The 4 speed bell housing bolted right up to the T5, and I got to keep my mechanical linkage. I didn't have the time or extra funds at the time to opt for a hydraulic clutch.

The pic with the stick of inches represents how much further back the new shifter would have to be from the stock position. I ended up using a modified short throw ford shifter (modified it, didn't know it was for a Ford, thx ebay) and had a custom stick bent up and welded on. I'll take pics if anyone wants them of that. The last 2 pics show how I drove it for 5 months before building and installing the V8. New and matching tries and rims of course.

Painted engine bay, old 292 L6 and new V8.

V8 = 327 block 40 over, 350 crank,Vortec heads with new behive springs, edelbrock intake, holley 650 spreadbore carb, comp cam 12-235-2 duration at .050 Intake 210 Exhaust 218 Balanced crank, crank aligned to the block. Long tube headers (collectors scrape sometimes with the 2 1/2'' drop in the front when I go in some place with an aggressive angle.)

Well I wanted this thing to handle like a sports car as much as possible (lol) so I decided to go with an old 3/4 ton swap bar off of a 80 something Chevy 3/4 ton truck. It bolted right up ( 85 lower control arm used). I removed one of the rivets on the front and the hole spacing was perfect for the mounts. I drilled 2 holes. I tried doing this with the engine in and couldn't get the rivet to come out (even tried an air hammer). I was using a grinder. Maybe all of you with a plasma torch might have better success. Later plans include a rear sway bar. I'll follow up with that one.

The engine went in. I bought a JEGS HEI distrubiter for it. Well I used the old L6 mount holes (mounting the mounts closer to the cab) and the new HEI didn't fit. Well I could have made it fit by beating the firewall, but thats just not cool. So I'm running points still.

About a month ago I got my 60-61 hood in so I decided I'm going to rattle can the truck satin until I can afford a proper paint job. I really don't think it looks that bad. I thought the half and half look was funny. I got tons of looks by people that saw both sides of the truck. But now the font end it totally painted.

And the last two are how it currently sits.

The next things on the list of things to do are,

1. finish the rattle can paint
2. Paint and install the camaro rear sway bar with new bushings
3. sound proof the now solid floor pan
4. Get the tilt front end done ;)

The HEI should fit. These fit with penty of room behind it. I found one on e bay for less money plus a $25 rebate. This would be my 2nd becuase I let the first one go when I sold my sb. I ended up paying $95 for the one I have now. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MAA-8548201RC/

Thanks for all the comments so far. The T-5. I love that thing. I'm at 2100 rpm at 70mph on the highway with 373's in the back and 255/60 r15's under it. It also makes mustang killing a little easier with 4th and 5th. The last 2 gears are like the ace up my sleeve.

I'm glad to see that your going with the earlier front end. It looks much better in my opinion.
