Farm-1942-Ohio plate

My refinish came out pretty decent I think. Tag came out of Napoleon, Ohio. I have seen several passenger plates, very few truck plates, and even less Farm plates for Ohio 1942. May be boatloads out there - dunno.

Plate is white white with dark green lettering.

I think anything metal from the war years is going to be pretty rare considering all the scrap drives they did.

That's a neat plate, nice job!

Where is Williamsburg ? I have lots of friends in Ohio , I usually go to Strongsville every year for the Northern Ohio Chevelle Show . Missed last year but plan on going again this year .

Williamsburg is about 35 miles east of Cincinnati on SR32. I have a dotter in Atlanta, bringing me a bellhousing from Ellijay,GA today. Only A-body I have is a 70 442.

I looked at several techniques and ended up using more than one. I drill/wire wheeled it for cleaning, too wet outside to blast, then welded in the top holes and relocated them for newer plates. Then a little body work - primed, sanded, primed, then washed with comet and 2000 scotchbrite. I thot about using antique white for the base color but actually bright white is correct for this tag. Painted it laying flat with a very wet last coat -- then let dry 2 days. I used 4 teaspoons-- probably only used a teaspoon of that -- of the Dark Hunter green from the quart but that was the least expensive way to buy it. Letters are almost dry - checking TX test plate.

Tested soft rubber text roller on TX plate. Masked and started with big letters, kinda inside out. Rolled letters at least twice. Smaller letters were the easiest. Touched up edges with trimmed cheap brush. Cleaned up errors with q-tips/paper towels and mineral spirits.

I will run this tag on the back of the blue 42 rod.

Just a quick question. have you checked with the state to see if an old Farm plate can be used on a non farm truck? Most of those plates meant that the truck was exempt from certain taxes but that it had to be used only on farm business. You could drive it to town to get stuff for the farm but couldn't tow your boat to the lake to go fishing nor take a non farm related road trip.

Re: Farm-1942-Ohio plate

Mr48, the truck is easily associated with my farm but since Ohio only issues 1 historic tag now ( still 2 for normal license) I did ask the DMV if I could run a year correct tag on the vehicle - said yes. They may have meant to register the YC tag but I will run the tag on the back with the Historic tag on the front behind the grill. If I get pulled over ---- doubtful unless breaking another law --- will say oh -- I will switch them places. The definition of historic is a little difficult for them to enforce here unless you would continually do a wrong thing. Breaking another law or maybe hauling commercially might get it done otherwise thay kinda leave us alone.

The state randomly sends out request for historic tagged insurance of which you have to prove insurance.
