Tightened the ol' girl up and got her off the ragjoint!

Made the XJ shaft swap tonight. Local search yeided a big fat zero so I bought one off eBay for $40. Propane torched the plastic inserts out, cleaned it up and painted with oil based enamel. Pretty straight forward install. Hardest part was notching the steering column stub for the pinch bolt. Very happy with the results. One of the best bang for the buck mods.

Nice work! It really does help tighten up things. I did the same but found one at the junkyard....

Hey, this is awesome, my girl is hooked on the ragjoint too... is that just straight off a Jeep XJ? Any particular year? Direct fit? I need more details? Part #?

with the nylons out there will be slop in the D-shaft over time .
lots of guys drill 2 holes for a 5/16" hole and weld on a nut each . then set screw in the hole to hold it tight . if in a accident the shaft will still slide over the set screws to save you as there is no hole in the solid shaft just the outer D-shaft body . otherwise there a super upgrade for cheeper than the name brand and just as good . |

And if anyone is wondering why the red, it's a carryover of my years of working on experimentel military aircraft and weapons. Any non-original part is painted orange for quick identification. It helps me and any future owner see what's been modified. It's just a quirk of mine.
