Classic Parts rear bumper review

I decided to cut off the welded roll pan on my truck since im going for a different look and purchased all the brackets, hardware and bumper from classic parts. As usual everything came packaged great and installed very easily. The stressful part was cutting off the welded roll pan but it actually wasn't that bad and came out great!

The chrome on the bumper is very nice and the ends are all cut smooth. I will probably be replacing my front bumper and getting it from classic parts too.

Looks great! Does the bumper box or anything inside indicate the manufacturer?

Looks fantastic! Did you use the bracket cover plates. I know on the Brothers web site they sell them. It suppose to make a cleaner install but yours looks great. Was the roll pan solidly welded at the end seem or just tack welded? Thanks, Rick

Nothing that shows a manufacture, it has classic parts info on it. I would assume they get theirs from the same place brothers does since they have a 5 year chrome warranty but I have no idea. I bet they are still made in Taiwan but it looks great either way.

Yea I used the bracket covers but you cant really see them unless you are right up on it looking down. The roll pan was fully welded. I started from the bottom looking inside with a sawzaw and just let her rip! lol. I still have the lip the factory lip in the panel so once I get some body work done you will never know it was on there.

Thanks, and by the way did you fill the notch cut out in the panel for the installation of the roll pan license plate box before installing the new bumper? Thanks, Rick

Looks great. Bumpers are called "bumpers" for a reason. I have never understood the reasoning for going to roll pans. If that's what the owner wants, God bless them, but for me, I know people bump into things.

Thanks for the review, it's always good to know what companies can be trusted.

Glad you got it trimmed out ok. I would have been pretty nervous to cut it out as nice as your truck is. I still need the bumper and the rear brackets, so I may have to give Classic a shout.

Looks great, this is on the short list of things to do on my 67 in the near future. If you happen to have your receipt handy could you post up the part numbers for reference so that myself as well as others can order everything necessary to do this job? Thanks in advance!

Looks great Holliday!

I'm wanting to put this bumper on my 72 fleetside too....what all parts did you have to order as far as brackets and bolts??

I know I need the bumper and license plate bracket assembly, but im confused which brackets and bolts to get....also the license plate light you have...

I currently have an aftermarket non original type bumper with a trailer ball and I don't like the way it looks....so I might already have some brackets which may or may not work with this repro bumper....any help is appreciated.

Here is what I need to install this bumper on my 72 2WD Fleetside

Bumper Brackets (comes in set of 4) : Part # 65-348
Bumper Bolt-Large (you will need Qty of 4) : Part # 65-105
Bumper Bolt-Small (you will need Qty of 4) : Part # 65-107
License Lamp Assembly : Part # 51-235

Hope this helps!!

That chrome bumper really pops against the red!

Do you have any pictures of the cuts you made?

I'll be in that same boat down the road and I'm curious what the 'damage' looks like.

Hey guys, made my cuts, I broke a few sawsall blades in the process. I made ny cuts about a quarter inch into the roll panel because I didn't want to chance getting into the lip on the quarter panels. Then i carefully ground off the rest and the welds to the lip. There was a skim of bondo over the weld so I need to lightly sand and paint touch up to make it perfect. I think the new bumper will cover it anyway. I was able to fit a piece of sheet metal where the cutout was for the roll pan license plate box on the roll pan. I used my mig welder and welded it in solid and ground and sanded it smooth, then primed the whole panel. I have some paint mixed up and put in a spray can to match the truck so all I have to do now is finish and paint the areas. I'm waiting for my parts to install the rear bumper, also since I had a painted white front bumper I bought the front chrome bumper too. All in all it took me about 4 hours to make the cuts and grinding and weld in the patch. Rick

Thanks for all this feedback on this topic, I have a roll pan on my 68 swb that the previously owner thought would look cool as well. I dislike it very much and will be doing this change to my truck in the future.

I have an ugly rusty diamond plate bumper that I'd like to replace with one like this Classic model. Since I already have a bumper, do I still need to cut a roll pan?

Is this the standard or premium be more?

Hey I have the diamond cut step bumper and am wanting to upgrade to this kind. Does the brackets work interchangeably?
