EBC brakes and rotors?
 

I read online all the reviews on these and it all sounds like bullsh*t. All the reviews sound scripted. Anybody ever tried them? Stock brakes on a 90 1500 suck.

drilled and slotted rotors really do help with braking power and brake fade but eat through pads alot quicker. there really is no justification for buying thier pads though, unless your in washington like me were the banned pads with copper in them for sale or use. other wise ceramic pads from the store are about as good as it gets for a street driver, if you were serius about your pads the obvoius choice is brembo or wilwood

I installed their rotors and their Green Stuff pads on my wifes 2002 Tahoe and have had no problems. They have about 10,000 miles on them. They do make a little noise for the first 200-300 miles but then quiet down. The stock stuff on those Tahoes is so junky anything would seem great though. As far as improved braking, I cannot tell any difference but there is little to no brake dust.

honestly if you can lock up the wheels on blank rotors and autozone pads you have plenty of braking power, the only reason i would buy wilwood or brembo calipers and grooved and dimpled rotors (grooved is not equal to slotted) would be for looks

The reason I asked is with stock 1990 ABS brakes (new) I about ass ended a car at a red light because I had a pallet of shingles in the back. With my 79 3/4 ton I could lock em up on the higway. I hate ABS anyway...

by new do you mean fresh calipers and pads and rotors along with a proper funtioning load sensing proportioning valve (assuming that truck has one), if they wont engage antilocks then something is wrong, if you did engage the antilock brakes you were at full stopping force with the load and width of the tires and all i can suggest is pay more attention and begin slowing sooner or buy wider stickier tires.


im sorry if this part is redundent but this is what i would do,

1 check rear brakes and or replace them (they dont normally matter but with a load they become vital)
2 check front calipers for biting by slamming on your brakes with the abs fuse pulled and see if the skid marks are different lenghts, if they are one or both of the calipers may be freezing up (replace)
3 check rotors for minimum thickness (its on the rotor but you can google it)
4 check your master cylinder for leaks and low fluid
5 report back if i missed stuff sorry im trying to do this off the top of my head
6 if you already knew all this again i dont mean to offend this is just what i would do

you might want to re-think "LIKING" abs brakes.. if working correctly... they are a major plus....... the weight thing/cargo may have played a huge part in that incident.

as far as drilled slotted rotors go and new calipers along with pads, the biggest differance over stock that you will see is how they perform at a track or tripple digit speeds

x2 theres a reason why they are required on all new cars same for airbags

they saved my life more than once because i learn to use them correctley

learn to drive with them and you love them

i personaly only use OEM products for brakes, Im hard no more precise rape them on my volvo, im 100% sure they will work and not fade when i need them the most, i do go through a set brake pads offen 3 pair on 5 mounths :lol: discs are next in a mounts or so

i would take Brembo or wildwood theres a reason why highend performace cars use them and not ebc

also dont use red stuff on the street they got to be hot before they brake at all :lol:

if you are skilled enough, you can brake a shorter distance than abs, but some of the early gm abs systems are about as good at working as a one legged dog trying to bury a turd on a frozen pond, and act about the same too lol

I have driven in snow since I was a baby. ABS, (almost brake stoppage) no thanks they suck. I know how to use that left pedal. Who made that video, the government?

My dad has EBC rotors and pads on his '98 F-150 and he likes them much better then stock. Just because you can lock the brakes doesnt mean you have good enough brakes, as he can do a hard panic stop, and it doesnt ruin the pads or warp the rotors. On my 87 R10 with stock LD brakes, if you ever did a panic stop, you were replacing the pads and turning the rotors the next day. Also with the EBC they last way longer, make almost ZERO brake dust on the wheels and they can stand up to multiple hard stops without fade I could notice.

Locking the brakes is the worst thing you can do anyway, as you decelerate slower when skidding.

If you get the aftermarket rotors, stay away from CROSS DRILLED rotors, stick to slotted and/or DIMPLED rotors.

The abs on my moms car cuts in early and begins kicking the pedal back before they begin to slide, (07 Saab)
