To be a Subscribing member is less than $0.07 cents a day.

I will ask : Where can you get this much advertisement to buy or sell something without the Stuff you have to deal with on MP or other Social sites?

Just my opinion. :chevy::chevy::chevy:

I have a 250 “long block”. It is missing the exhaust manifold, carburetor, thermostat housing, and accessory brackets. If interested, let me know.

you folks may remember my post several months ago .had coolant seeping from several head bolts.well, took the head off and had it magnafluxed did not find any cracks. head gasket was not leaking because it is not leaking into cylinders.i am thinking the bolt holes in head has a pin hole in the walls.want to keep the inline six in it .looking for some direction.just as soon not put v-8 in it.

Just because coolant wasn't getting into the cylinders doesn't mean the gasket wasn't leaking. What does the oil look like?
I would clean and check the deck surface for cracks and straightness, it should be fine if the engine hasn't been severely abused or overheated.
Next run a thread chasing tap through all the head bolt holes checking for obvious signs of a problem. If it's all good go back with a new head gasket, coat all the head bolts with pipe thread sealer then torque to proper spec.

sorry it took so long to reply having bad lightning storm.ms66 thanks for thinking on this coolant leak problem.tried to make my previous post short.the oil looks good block deck looks good resurfaced head.installed new head gasket and put different thread sealer on all 3 bolts.been driving for about a month and it still runs just fine as it has for past 45 years still leaking.oh yea chased all threads.also just for fun took one bolt out and put thin copper washer under the head of bolt.no change in leak.had a good head of hair till this problem cropped up now getting a might thin.

Re: 250 ci engine

Is it leaking out around the bolt heads or somewhere else?

h2005frank 12-26-2023 01:33 PM

Re: 250 ci engine

Some where right around bolt head.when I drive it the leak is so small that it evaporates the coolant. Only after it cools down can I see traces of coolant.around bolt head.

So right above each intake port!
You could try some coolant dye to pinpoint the leaks.

Re: 250 ci engine

That’s correct over intake ports.i put some dye in it before I took the head off and it just puddled up around the head of bolt could not pin point leak.i tried to stay up late that night and of course it leaked after I fell asleep.i will have to clean the dye up and revisit that procedure during day light hours.maybe need to make my over eng. creeper a little more comfortable so I can lay there longer.thanks for all the time you have taken to respond.

Re: 250 ci engine

pull the bolts 1 at a time, coat the threads with Indian head Gasket shellac and torque down this will most likely fix your problem.
I coat all the bolts on the heads that I have off. Been doing it for over 50 years.
