Long time lurker and finally picked up my own 67/72

I’ve always loved the 67-72 pickups as long as I could remember but was always hung up on other projects (still am). A good friend of mine was telling me back in December 2017 about his neighbor offering one of his c10’s he has sitting in his woods to a guy for $1000.... the guy turned it down. I took interest and finally got over in April of this year to take a look and agreed to the buy. Months or phone tag and bad weather we finally got together and got all the paper work done and dragging it out of there in the morning.

It’s a 1969 swb step side. The guy said he got it as a package deal some years ago with a 74 nova. He was planning on using both for parts. Then just parked them. Anyway it’s said to have a 350/m21 combo. What I know is it has a Holley carb aluminum intake long tube headers some aluminum wheels and some odd body mods. I’m sure from siting it will need some metal work however from what I can see the overall Truck is not in that bad of shape.

Today my friend and I went over and worked on digging it out and threw some mothballs in the thing and set off a bug bomb in it. Don’t want to bring home any critters. Anyway while digging in the truck we found the original owners manual and the original warranty papers and protect-o-plate. Along with old registrations and inspection records back to the 80s. Pretty excited to get it home and really dig into it.l!

Short stepper for 1k? I'd buy one every day! 1,000 doesn't get you much in my area...

Nice find, Rg

Congrats on your new project. Looks to be a good one.
Does it have an intact SPID? If so post a picture of it!

They are stupid high around here also. That’s why when the guy gave me the price I jumped on it. He has 6-7 more trucks this generation but all long begs. The SPID sheet is there but faded and ripped up. I did some vin decoding and it was purchased originally By a Utillity Company In WVa as a Cab Chassis with a 6cyl. Been a stressful last couple of months trying to get the deal done and get it drug home. I can say this my next purchase will be my own car trailer with winch.

Thanks! So far I’ve gotten it almost completely cleaned inside and out and swapped some used tires on that hold air. Next working on getting it fired up. I’ve had the engine spinning over with a bump switch but not getting spark and no power inside the cab so some wiring needs to be gone through. Ordered a hei dizzy to convert it.

Pull the wire harness apart at the firewall (under hood). Look at inside of plug. If one wire has gotten too hot, the plastic plug will have melted around that wire. That is usually the main power wire. My 68 had a jumper wire from that wire under hood, run to the ign. swi, area.....

Cool I’ll check it out! I got it running today with a bump switch and from a can. Carb needs to be gone through which was expected. But has good oil pressure and hear no knocks.
