Hey guys, just wanted to introduce myself. Names Matt and I just got my my first c10 of my dreams. 1970 swb with a lq9 6.0 and a 4l65e trans. It's on jack stands on the driver front because the studs popped and I lost a wheel on the free way hauling it home on wheel dollies, some one stopped and took the rim and left. :sumo:

Any ways truck is in great solid shape but far from were I want it. I bought it haul my race truck and lay low. I love low trucks. I just can't decide if I want to cut the bed to go low, or do a under bed bags for replacing the coils to haul the weight. I change my mind like my underwear so let's see. Either way guys, I live in the Houston area and look forward to many post. Having a turbo truck I race and brake on the constant, and trying to do all the work to the c10 that I want will take time, but it will get done!

Also, on a side not, it has disk brake 6 lug in front and drum in back. How dome find out what spindles to buy, wheel studs, brakes ext..?

Any body have a guess on the drop? Maybe a 3/5? It's on a 295/50/16 tire at the moment. My race truck is a 99 and with a 4/8 drop it tucks tire in the front, and slicks in the back. The previous owner said 3/5 but I think it might be a 2/4?

Bummer about someone taking your wheel. Do you have a picture of the disc/spindle on there? Most guys on this forum could probably tell you exactly what you need if you post some good pictures

Do you need a new Wheel hub or just new studs? Are the wheel bearings shot or the stud holes damaged? If not you may be able to just hammer in new studs

That's a scarey looking front brake set up.
It appears the disc rotor does not seat on the hub.
That's probably why it sheared the lug studs.
That's also drum brake spindle with what appears to be a drum brake hub, with a 6-lug "hat style" rotor from the 88-98 trucks.
You need to fix that correctly.

Buy a set of 63-70 conversion spindles and aftermarket 6-lug rotors,... Before somethings worse happens.
Crazy stuff people are doing to these old trucks.

That's one thing I don't like about picking up someone else's project. It might not be correct but it stops too good. It's like all or nothing.. I wanted to buy drop spindles but didn't know what to purchase because of the parts they swapped out. The wheel bearings are done, that's why I just wanted a replacement hub and just slide it on.

Well let me do some research. The truck is pretty clean, no rust and vin matches every were. I'm pretty stocked and I got it for a steal

Ooooo and the rotors is hanging on, I have the caliper just finger tight and pulled the shoes out. It sits flush. Any one know where to get just a replacement hub?
And can I buy drop spindles for a 1970 for the disk and 6 lug?

if that is the truck that was for sale near old Galveston road and beltway 8 I looked at it. check the fuel tank because it is leaking inside cab. the wiring was a homemade hack job. wires running everywhere under dash and hood. every mod they did to it was from salvage yard. it is a very solid truck as far as sheetmetal and could be a very nice truck. I almost bought it but he would not take less than $9000 for it. with a little work it could be real nice.

Yea it was. It had a lot of little problems but I knew it before I bought it. The trans was slipping, the studs/studs were messed up ext. I wish the didn't paint it, it's ok but I do my own paint and body so even though it's a 7/10 paint, it make it a lot harder for me to do what I want to it.
I feel like I stole the truck. I traded the kid a 1999 corvette c5 with 170k miles. The corvette is cool but holds no value and it is expensive to repair. The Ac compressor was out, the windshield wouldn't boss, the glove box and center console we're broke and the front bumper had a crack in the fiberglass. I got the corvette from my parents, they went to trade it in for a c6 and they offered 5k, so I said well I'll give you 5 k cash. Turned around and traded it for the c10.. Not bad for a marching number cab frame short bed truck with a 6.0 and 4l65e trans already. Sh!t, just a 6.0 and 4l60 take it is 2k alone. I'm very satisfied with the truck even though I will be redoing everything..

Good eye lolife I knew I recognized them but it didn't occur to me someone would try to mickeymouse them like that...

Take his advise and knock that crap off and start fresh. You are going to need good brakes with that 6.0 trust me.

So has anyone concluded on why I shouldn't use the brakes? I don't understand why we're talking about brakes here? The shoes are off and the rotor is just hanging. It centers up just fine..

Your brakes are hodge podged together. That is a drum spindle you have disc brakes hanging off of. I'm not even sure what your caliper bracket is mounted to... this appears to be a very very unsafe setup. You don't want to invest hours and thousands of dollars into a truck and crash it because your brakes are crap or worse kill someone else or yourself. Do yourself and your family a favor and get the brakes correct. This is/will be a very fast truck you need to be able to stop it safely. I know it is a lot of money to have to spend that you may not have budgeted but it is needed more than anything else on your truck.

welcome! from another houston area guy! Theres a lot of us on here, Check out c10 club texas when you get a chance. This place and all of us in the club can be helpful. My 2 cents is to spend the money and do the brakes correctly, especially if your gonna pull a trailer. Just imagine if those studs had sheared at 70 mph with your trailer and race truck behind you!

Guys, I'm going to pull it apart next weekend. There is no holes drilled with added parts ext. just because it isn't a "bolt on conversion" kit you just dosnt meen it is garbage (might be, haven't tore it down). It looks like the 6 lug drop spindle for disk brakes uses the same holes, so it will move the caliper to the other side.

This truck will not be fast or dangerous lol... I drive a fully gutted 99 single cab with a th400 full Manuel valve body, 4K stall on transbrake with full slicks and front runnerswith a t6 s475 turbo.. That's fast, not a 5000 pound brick steel with a 6 liter lol... For you people who know everything, tell me how I'm running a 15x10 wheel on a 6 lug 12 bolt with disk brakes? It shouldn't clear the caliper right? But mine does :)

I have to agree with you to an extent.... I have no problems with mix matching parts if it works . I'm running Moser axles with a car bolt pattern and rear drums off of a 69 ss 2x11" I had to do a lot of research but with a 1/2 drill bit you open the 7 /16 holes up and now you can find a lot of wheels with a bs that allows for major meat in the rear without costing more than the enging... Lol! ....however if a po did it I would definitely want to know what parts are there or at very least...throw the digital calapers on them.... I have lots of freinkinstine stuff on my ride though...it's unique.

when I talked to the father of the kid who owned the truck he told me that he ordered the six lug conversion. probably just not installed properly.he seems to be honest and would give you more info on the truck than the kid. I know he spent a lot of money on the truck. I almost bought it myself.
