HELLO
this is my brother's old work truck
It was a faithful old truck for many years. This past summer, had a small engine fire, nothing major, the truck still ran. Our nephew came up from south Alabama, asking if he could have the truck. My brother told him he could, if he would get it road worthy: License, insurance, etc. During this time, he decided to buy an '81 Silverado shortbed, and began stripping this truck for parts. Left us missing distributor cap, rotary button, coil, the starter, starter bolts, carburetor, carburetor bolts, passenger side door handle bazle, window crank. We have managed to get everything but the carburetor, and bolts, and starter bolts. Being disabled and on a fixed income, this hasn't been easy. And wish me luck, cause Lord knows, I'm gonna need it. We're fixing this truck up for my brother's son, so we'll have a vehicle here while he's at work.

Since this build was started, my stepfather, my brother's father and my nephew's grandfather, has passed away. We are dedicating this in his honor. A couple of months before he passed away, he came over and looked at the truck, said he liked that, and looked at me and said, "I taught you well, didn't I boy?" Also said it needed a bigger motor, so we're working on that. Thanks for reading..

Welcome to the board!!

Have you priced a reman'ed carb through someone like AutoZone or someplace similar? I have purchased some in the past for @ $125 and they worked great. Not sure what you're looking to spend but it's not a bad deal imo. Good luck with it.

Welcome!

$125 reman is as good as it's gonna get unless you know a guy who can rebuild your junkyard carb. Rebuilds are super-cheap, though, under$50 for sure...with the book on how to do it!

$125 reman not here all over 225 :waah:@ AutoZone or similar place
has anyone had any thing to do with this site rebuilt carburetors looks like good deals on Holley carburetors

Re: It ain't over till it's over.

The "cheap" one at AutoZone is a Quadrajet universal replacement, manual choke carb. It will not be exactly like the original, but you should be able to make it work.

As for the link... never used them.

Good luck.

Re: It ain't over till it's over.

Well thank you sir, but in the northern part of Alabama, you can't buy a lawn mower carburetor for $125 at Auto Zone. To make sure I haven't missed anything, I was doing my searches online. Easier for me that way, being disabled, I was just on the phone with Auto Zone and the cheapest carburetor that they could offer me was $345, thats including a $40 core charge of course, but that's still quite a ways from $125. But I do appreciate the effort. But I have some relatives in South Alabama. What Auto Zone do you go to? I'll send them there lol.

Wow! $345? You'd be better off buying a brand new holley for that price...check these summit racing prices:

Well, we managed to get a Edlerbrock 4-barrel, a decent set of tires and rims, and a tube grill insert all for $185. We'll post pictures later on as my camera's batteries are dead when it rains and pours:smoke:

Boy it's been rough trying to get everything done out of a two bedroom apartment. We managed to get it in prime, fabricate two new door panels, put bucket seats, new rear bumper, alarm system, stereo system, carpet, new fuel pump. Got it on the road and running, still needs to be painted and some minor tweaks. But everything is looking good. I have truly enjoyed reading a lot of the project pages and viewing the different photos of the sweet looking trucks that some of the people here have. Some day mine will look as good as their's. But it just takes time, doesn't it? We'll have more photos later on.
