I forgot to answer this question... ;)

I used a product called Heavy Metal Polish... it comes in 3 different grits. Fine, Medium, and Coarse. I used the Medium to get all the oxidization and crud off the wheels. Then hit them with some Never-Dull after that.

A free weekend, a lot of elbow grease and beer, and all 4 done. PITA, but worth it.

Holy cats... its been a year and a half since I updated this thread. :) Thanks you'se guys for all the kick ass complements! It keeps the fires lit to keep pluggin' away.

So here is what's been happenin' to the ol' rod...

First off I moved in with my girlfriend, that is now my fiancé, that is going to b my wife on March 15th. She found the property with this 38' x 40' shop so we could build my '72, and we are on the hunt for a '73 to '79 GMC K25 to build for her. Oh yeah... she's a keeper.

I'm going to try to upload these in a decent order. But no guarantees... lol

First off I upgraded the Ignition system to a full MSD setup. Pro-billet HEI, Digital 6AL box, and 8.5mm Super Conductor wires. I fabbed up the mount for the box on the inner fender out of 14 gauge sheet metal.

Now installing power brake booster from CPP, and also running the rest of the Stainless Steel lines.

Turns out my shop is a little damp in the winter months. Not happy about it, but oh well. So take it from me, to make sure you paint the master cylinder before installing it in the rig. I had to take the master cylinder back out and remove all the surface rust off of it. Then paint it "cast iron" gray.

I had to modify a 1/2" wrench to get to the brake line retaining bolts that are very close to the engine mount stands. Even though it looks like it's possible in the pic... you can't get a socket, box end, or anything "normal" on that bolt. So to the bench grinder I went with the open end wrench. What a PITA...

When I come along stuff like this I have to keep telling myself I'm doing this because it's "fun". :bann:

Oh... there's that chrome washer I dropped about 4 years ago. :dohh: (not very chrome now)

So now it's sitting like this... still need to get new calipers, rotors and pads. All new brake lines (stainless steel and rubber) have been installed. Now that I have the headers out of it... I am thinking of having them powder coated. Unless there are good high temp exhaust paints out there nowadays to do the job. Any suggestions?

It will be like this till my fiancé and I get back from Maui after out wedding. Looking forward to getting back on the prowl with the rig. :)

Oh yeah... last pic... how many of you cats have jack stands made out of '40 Ford axle tubes? Rock on... :metal:
