Cummins Swap 1968 Suburban - wish list
I've followed posts on the site so i thought I would reach out for advice.
I'm gathering parts for a Suburban with Cummins build Heres what I have so far 1972 Suburban K10 rolling frame 1968 Suburban rust free body 1992 D250 Cummins Pickup with auto Rob Bonney Frame box kit & motor mounts With Black Friday here and vendors offering deals what would you buy? I'm older and don't want too much lift. This will be a daily driver - I live in Colorado. I believe the Front & Rear differentials (Dana 60 & 70) from my donor truck will work. Strong running 5.9 but it has the VE Rotary pump so looking for the required parts to upgrade to P Pump. The auto trans is slipping as it was a snow plow truck. thanks in advance. |
Re: Cummins Swap 1968 Suburban - wish list
I am dreaming of my own Cummins swap someday, but a VE pump is a good set up unless your shooting for big time power.
This is off memory here, and stuff i halve read. How true I do not know. The VE pump is good to roughly 500 hp with the right parts. Supposedly a bit easier to start the a P-pump, and slightly better mpg. Also quite a bit cheaper since no one wants them if you need spares compared to a P-pump. |
Re: Cummins Swap 1968 Suburban - wish list
I run a VE in mine, it will get you to 400’s not so sure about 500...better off finding a p pump engine vs buying the swap items. it’s a great running truck and a blast to drive, do it!

Good luck on your quest.
If you do a build thread make sure you post good info & details. 2years and I’m still collecting parts and struggling on info for my 67 4x4 cc Cummins build. |
