what kinda finish on oak?
 

what should i put on my oak floor for my truck. its going to be an everyday driver and hopefully garaged. i was thinking maybe car paint clear coat?

Id put a clear wood sealant on it,or you could always get a roller and some house paint and roll it on,wouldnt look so hot but itd work.

what do u want it to look like? really sharp but durable?? I'm put a hony oak varnish then an outdoor sealer type coat the SH*T out of it, the ore u put on the longer it will last,if u just use a couple coats it will crac(the vrnish etc.) and let waer get into parts of the wood and discolor it.

use a penetrating oil based product like Deks Ole that will preserve the wood rather a surface application like paint or varnish that will chip and peel

I have tried several different products for my oak boards and my truck sits outside all the time. I've tried oils and sealers. The last one I tried (last summer) has been the best so far and it still looks almost as good as the day I did it...Kitchen cabinet looks. I stained my yellow pine boards and applied three coats of marine grade polyurethane. Says that it contains UV blockers, but time will tell....I just got them in the bed last Sunday night. I got the standard bed strips, not the stainless, and they're painted the same color as the truck, victory red. The bed goes on the truck this Friday night. I'll get some photos scanned soon after.

I stained my oak with a Minwax stain and then shot on some Dupont ChromaClear automotive clear. It worked great, did 3 coats all the way around, and its been close to 6 months now.... still looks brand new.

Make such u were gloves when handling the wood before stain or sealing it. I used light oak stain and three coats varathane exterior. here's a link to the sealer i used. http://www.flecto.com/products/var_w_dof.html

Go to a boat supply place and talk to them. If it will withstand salt air and seagull crap, it'll work on your truck. I think blue was saying to wear gloves so the oil in your hands don't contaminate the wood. Nice truck blue.

we use linseed oil to preserve the wood on old horsedrawn equipment that sits out all the time, wagon tounges, wagon boxes, drill boxes, etc. Works pretty well and I think i'm gonna use it on the oak boards I'm gonna cut for my short step.
