Reconditioning tilt column. Some questions, need advise????

I just picked up a truck tilt for my Sub project from a local board member. I already have the wheel off and all of the levers & the shift indicator. Does anyone have a copy of the Fact. Serv. Man. dealing with the disassembly/reassembly of the tilt? If so, would you be able to scan the page(s) and post them up on the forum... :D I mainly need to know how to PROPERLY remove the wiring harness out of it so I can clean it up and repair a cut wire in the harness. Also would make it a little easier to sand/prime/paint.

Also, I have only seen the tilts in Black. Did they come painted in any other color?

What's up with the chrome hazard knob? My std. column has a red plastic button for the hazards...

Thanks,
Joe

They originally had red hazzard button.Gm`s replacement signal-cam has the black 2pc.button.Is yours 1pc.shaped like a door lock button?I have one like that on a van tilt.On column color,my experience has been:Chevys & GMCs match interior color.But,`72 chevys are black.

Bagged 91,

I don't have a scanner but I can fax you the pages on the steering column.
If you want the pages faxed to you, PM me a fax number and I will send the pages.

As far as I know all tilt columns were painted black. We painted my son's to match the interior on his Blazer and it looks really nice.

All tilts were black.
As for your hazzards button... sometime in the 70's the feds made GM to to a new style switch...the style that has the spring loaded button with a collar around it. Once they tooled up for that, they stopped making the old style with the red button. So replacements were of the new version once the old stock was depleted. You simply have a replacement piece.
Some one probably snagged that hazzard button off something else in the junk yard. It kinda looks like a Ford one to me...I had one off a Falcon that looked very much like that.

the switch has a different part number for tilt and non tilt.

I used the switch from my non tilt in my tilt though
Not sure what the difference is,wire is plenty long, and everything works and fits just fine.I was too cheap to buy a new one.

My`71 was all original when I bought it from the original owner. It had a Saddle tilt.If that`s true,I guess he took it out, disassembled, and painted it.Looks perfect, still.
