Replacing blower motor?
Just wondering if there's any tips or tricks to it. My dad remembers it being a royal pain last time but I don't see why and he doesn't remember why.
Maybe that's why I've gotta replace it. ;) Factory A/C if that makes a difference, it probably does... |
You are testing my memory, but it seems I remember one of the bolts that hold the blower motor in on a/c trucks is blocked by the hood hinge. I am almost sure I had to remove the hinge to get it out.

I had to take the hinge off (not to mention the hood). Maybe there's a trick to it but I didn't see it.
Good luck! |
I could get the top ones without a problem, it's the one buried down behind the passenger fender that was hard. A previous owner cut a hole in the fender, made it easy for me.

Use something to prop open the hood, scratch marks where the bolts go on the hinge so you can line up the hood properly when you replace the hinge. Its REALLY EASY, Give it a go.

*eeps*
The hinge? I've gotta remove the hinge? Oh well, now's as good as time as ever to realign the hood. ;) I can't take driving around Phoenix without A/C anymore!!! |
Oh, and forgive me if this sounds utterly retarded - what's the preferred method for supporting the hood? A two-by-four from the latch to the radiator? :)
|
Thats how my hood has been held open every time for the last 1 1/2 years. Well, Actually I just fixed it. :D
|
I guess it's just the way I did it, but I'm unsafe type of person. I just undid the passenger side hood hinge from the fender and slid it forward and let it rest on the inner fender.

Did you make sure that it was not just a bad ground on the blower first, like mine was? If it is it sure saves alot of work. I recomend checking it out fully prior to the change. Sometimes, I will jump to fast and wind up replacing something that works.

It runs, but it draws way too much current. Kills switches all the time.
|
Thats how I have always done them, remove the hindge and prop the hood --piece of cake

So now I've got a new blower motor and an aligned hood. :D |
Replaced mine last winter. The neighbor just happened to have received a flex screw driver for Christmas. The shaft is bendable, kinda like some desk lamps. You can put sockets or screw driver tips on it. It worked great. Didn't have to touch the hinge.
