tach
I've been thinking about this factory tach for quite some time now. I have an extra gage panel and I'm gonna come up with an inexpensive way to make a stock looking tach panel without the $300+ cost. My rig is far from stock and i dont care if my tach is stock or not. I have the Sun pro II conversion now but it looks tacky.
Has anyone seen an aftermarket or a tach in a different car that looks the same or similar to the stock tachs? This is driving me crazy. I wont the stock tach but i cant afford anything even close to what they get for them. |
Re: tach
I've seen quite a few people post pics with camaro tachs in the dash. They don't look as nice as the stock tach to me, but they look a little better than many aftermarket tachs.
I think the new LMC has a tach for $85. They also sell a tach conversion kit, but I'm not sure how much that is. |
Re: tach
The repro tachs are comming down in price... I may finally be able to afford one..

Re: tach
Repo tach's are like $85. but you can get a sun tach at swap meets for probably $20. that will fit in your stock dash. Originals are nice but far from accurate so unless you have a hankerin for originality, just stick a decent aftermarket on your steering column and enjoy.

Re: tach
Yeah I totally agree the sunpro ones just look to checker auto to me, I would also like to get a factory tach but don't think that they are worth the $ especially if they are not very acurate. Besides with a 330HP crate and a factory tach you will be pegging the factory 5K tach out. Maybe you can find a nice autometer or vdo that you can live with?

Here's a pic of mine. Like was said earlier, not stock looking, but it sure comes in handy as a diagnostic tool.....

Re: tach
paul 72, yours is better looking than the Sun but it still looks to aftermarket for my taste. dont get me wrong its nicer than most ive seen. I'm conteplating on just bucking up the funds and spending the $400 for this because i need the vacuum gage so i know when i have brakes.
4 bills though is alot though. |

Re: tach
Any second generation tach should work (70-81). It took a little time but I think it was worth it.

Re: tach
whats involved in installing the camaro tach?

Re: tach
I've looked at the camero tachs on e-bay. I even have them marked in my favorite searches. And so far thats the best looking one other than the original.
