72 GMC Project 3/4 Ton 4x4

Well, the work started tonight.

I have a 72 GMC Sierra Grande 2500 4x4. I'm doing a few things to it to make it a better tow rig.

Tonight we took out the guages, dash, vents, radio, heater core and grill, wiring. It's all in excellent condition and works just fine. All this stuff will soon be for sale once I figure out how much its worth :)

We'll be installing a vintage air a/c system, digital guages, new dash, seats, liners, electic windows & locks, replacing the 350 with a 383 strokers for towing (the 350 will end up in the Jeep), fuel cell, and probably a few other things that will come about by the project. I didn't take pics tonight. We're doing the work at a friends house and it takes me 1hr 15min drive each way (58mins on the SBK). We're hoping to have the truck done in 2 or 3 weeks. We shall see. I try to post some pics once I figure out how to post them. Wish me luck, and I may be back to ask some questions.

Just remember you have to be a paid subscriber to post for sale and value threads. Good luck on your project. Hope to see pics real soon.

Thanks for the kind words. I'll take some pics of the project and will keep you guys updated.

engine, Carb, intake, gaskets, distributor, ignition box, ignition wires, valve covers, headers are all in route. Should be here by Friday, so maybe hopefully we'll have the engine in by Sunday. I can't wait for it to be done.

Fuel cell for safety. It's got three tanks and they scare the crap out of me. I'll be using it for a tow rig in bad conditions, so I need it to be in top shape and with the safest fuel options, unlike the incab bomb or secondary tank bombs that are known for exploding on side impact. The truck is in good shape, but with my bad back, it's gonna get a rework from head to toe including some type of air ride as overload suspension for heavy loads.

Maybe I am different, but I really like that green/black interior!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I might have to be a copy cat on that because I always wanted to have a black truck, but I have a ton of green interior pcs.

Definitely very nice!

Thorley. Nice thick flange and lots of room for the plugs to stay nice and cool.

oh i understand you completely but if i may your truck is much safer then any 73 to 87 on the road today. Yout tank while behind the seat may not be really safe but Saddle bags as we have are much worse. Our tanks are unprotected and since most people get hit in those spots and out tanks are outside the frame rails well you can guess what happens. They even have a website for victoms it is ( no crash no burn ,com or somthing) eather way I do understand your reasoning and i think the fuel cell will make for a safe rig. also are you going to fix the filler cap on the cab then?
Good luck and keep the pics coming

That lets me flip the fuel guage line between the three tanks so I can see how much fuel I have in each of them.
