Van Tilt mods ...

You guys that have used the van tilts, this question is for you. Once you knock out the plastic rivets to shorten the intermediate shaft, what do you do to keep the shafts in place afterwards? It seems that it would want to "collapse" from road vibrations which would allow it to come loose from the rag joint. Not fun at highway speeds.

Do you drill two new holes and use bolts?

Use roll pins, if so, what size?

Thanks.

leave it alone... onless your steering fear box falls off, or the column ralls off, that shaft can not expaned or contract one bit. Everything it's hooked to is bolted down.

Try forcing "goop" brand sealer or hot glue gun into the old holes and where the shaft goes into the outer part. You just need something to tighten up that area. Without it there will be a little slop and rattle...very irritating.

I used an aluminum roll pin, but don't remember the size.

The rag joint is bolted to the steering box, but the column is NOT bolted to the rag joint, or at least with the rag joint I got.

<edit> My rag joint was sent with short bolts ... I see what's wrong with mine now (head comes out of a$$) ...thanks for the pic!
