I picked up a rear disc setup from a 79' Caddy deville the other day at the u-pull-it yard for $35. Got both backing plates, rotors, calipers & e-brake cables along with the proportioning valve. I had the axles on turned down so the caddy rotors would go on, cost= $40 for both axles... The caddy rear has the small bolt pattern backingplate flange with the staggered bolt holes and smaller center hole whereas the truck backing plate bolts are wider spaced and has a big hole for the axle tube. I took the truck backing plate and cut the center out cut the center from the disc backing plate. I then welded the truck center into the disc center & after a little cleaning up, it bolted on... It looks like I will need to use 2 drivers side caddy e brake cables to make it work.

Very cool, i always thought that the caddy stuff just bolted straight on without these mods though? Might it bolt to the 73-87 rearend? Make sure to hook up and use your parking brake, thats what keep this design caliper adjusted properly. If not done they seem to start leaking around the adjuster arm on the back of the caliper.

don't forget to set the e-brake from time to time too, otherwise they won't agjust properly

What model is the Deville? I have a set-up from the Caddy 77-79 rear wheel drive like the Chev Caprice/Pontiac Bonneville etc. I think it is called the Seville? Was the Deville a FRONT wheel drive?

The Seville is the "midsize" RWD caddy... The Deville is the ocean liner bodystyle, RWD...

Would you give more details on the fitting the rotors on the axles, please. Do the rotors slip on the studs and flange of the factory pickup axle? Any pics would be appreciated.

Bagged91 - one more question. The Seville has one caliper in front of the axle and one to the rear. How about the DeVille? Are they both to to the rear?(I hope)

Lee, I had to have the outer flange of the axle turned down at a machine shop so that the inside of the caddy rotor would clear it. Now it slips on like the factory drum did...

Bob, the Deville is setup the same as the Seville... I assume that was a GM cost cutting measure so they only had to use one backing plate. I may mess around a little and see if I can make it "symmetrical" when I mod the other backing plate... Defininitely would look better.... ;)
