need to know whar tranny i have

i have 4spd the numbers on the back are as follows "3901183" "gm1" or the 1 is an arrow the reason i need to know is i have noise coming from mine and i can get one for about $500. from checker. but they list them in there computer as turbo 350 an 400 even the manual trannies. if anyone can help i would be thankful.

Best advice I can give is WATCH OUT FOR CHECKER. If it were me, I'd be talking to a reputable transmission shop.

true eough but the shop i talk to bout rebuiling the price starts at $700.00 and WILL GO UP. thats what he told me. these guys in colorado are IN LOVE WITH THERE WORK.

Yah, but their computer knows what it's talking about. The wrong part isn't a bargain. I'd also like to see what warranty you get from Checker. A friend bought a long block there. He has gotten pretty good at swapping out long blocks. I don't need the practice. Just my opinion, not trying to be a wise guy

is it the original granny first gear toploader tranny or is it a car 4 speed than someone stuck in it ? car 4 speed have shift rods externally mounted and truck 4 speed are huge trannies and one big tall shifter stick out the top of tranny.

what do you have ?

i didnt know auto parts stores carried trannies liek that, thats sure interesting,,,

ttt

well if its original 4 speed and nothing is listed on glovebox sticker then you have a CH465 if the shift handle is a really tall skinny round shaft and painted black with a black round knob with 1234R or L234R on it
