alpine amp wiring

ok yall i wasent sure where to ask this but im not sure about this. i have a 4ch 400watt alpine amp. i bought it for $10 and the guy that had it did some soldering inside and one channel doesent work so i only use 2ch. what im wondering is could i bridge those 2 channels and run my subs in a series and get better performance or would i be better off just hooking them 1 to each channel? it hits damn hard now but i was just wondering.
thanks,
John

Was it origionally a 2-3-4 channel or a 2-4 channel? If its a 2-4 & you try to series 2 channels together, you can just toss it in the dumpster now & save the hassle. It will fry it for sure. Just hook it up as a 2 channel & reverse the polarity on one of the subs. Same basic deal as bridged just not as powerful...

We need to know the impedence of them. The second thing we will need to know is the lowest impedence the amp will go. If it is a newer Alpine Amp, the Amp should be abler to handle a 2ohm load. If the subs are at a 4 ohm load, you can parallel the 2 subs and get the 2 ohm load. This will give you more power. If you run the subs in series, you will have a higher impedence and will have less power to the subs.

Good luck

Thats right, but remember to do it with the speakers & not the channels of the amp if its stereo only. If an amp isnt designed to bridge dont use a + of one channel & a - of the other...

Lookup the model on alpines site, they should have the user manual listed, and it will give you all the important facts (ie. impedance, channels, settings, etc.). :)
