You don't even know

I the story of my trip home is what woulda made this thread ;)

I'll type it again tomorrow, so you can see what I went though to get this thing

Bu the basic gist of the story is the fact that I drove this thing in a MONSOON for 2 hours, with no headlights or wipers going about 60-65 mph most of the way

Those add-on things must be so aerodynamic that you didn’t need the wipers!

For a sec I thought it was the "SS" school bus version.

(Yeah yeah I know, no SS line for trucks in 1967).

There’s an area in Dallas referred as Deep Ellum (southern accent) (it’s really Elm street).
I think we should call the truck Deep Ellum!

overall its a truck id love to have with it being a 67 gmc with the v6 but the first thing id do is take off those to things on the roof and the bug shield, clean it up a bit and drive it, with the headlights and wipers working ofcourse

Re: I just wrote a novel

Ok, here is the story

My dad & I were going to look at a 67 bug that I have been trying to buy for the past few years, & on the way we spot a 67 GMC on the side of the road & it's for sale
So we decided that we'd stop & look at it on the way back, so we come back to look at it & it looks like a pretty good ol truck
So I called the guy up & asked him a little about it & how much he was try'n to get out of it & he offers to come let us hear it run as he is only 10 min. away
So he comes & fires it off, it sounds good, doesn't smoke... :blah:
So my dad & I have a system we use to haggle peeps down, so we put that into swing & we come to an agreeable price :Own:
So about that time we realize that we can't tow it home, because our trailer is broke at the moment :( So I check the brakes to see if I think I can drive it home (last driven in 04) The pedal goes thump, down to the floor... aren't they all
So he says hmmm, that thing had pedal just the other day so he gives us some brake fluid & we bleed the brakes some, so it has a LITTLE bit of pedal
I'm like "Welp it's got E-brake if nothing else" So we go to get some gas in a gas can, so we can have enough fuel to get to the station
We get back & put the gas in, head out to the gas station, get fuel & add some air to the tires

SO off we go, but shortly after getting back on the road it starts to rain :me:
Anywho, after a while it starts to REALLY rain like cows (completely ship cats & dogs and went to cows) By the way, I have no wiper or headlights

So I wind up driving in a MONSOON for about 2 hours to get home, I thing we managed about 60-65 mph on the way home (couldn't see Sh_t !)
But I made it home & thats what counts, I think my original story might have been a little better but hay this one works

Cleaning & getting the "bugs" worked out are top of the list
Removing the accessories is gonna wait a while

 BTDT, sucks doesn't it. I've driven with a headlight plugged into the cig lighter and a string tied to the wipers so me and my buddy could give the windshield a swipe every now and then, but that's back when I was your age.

that's probably a sweet truck under the K-mart rash.
Krue, I thought I was the only one who's ever done the string trick on the wipers! The cig lighter plug is a road side repair I'll have to remember though.
What did you think of the V6 durring your drive? I hadn't realized you could get a 3 speed with the V-6, I've only seen 4 speeds and autos.
Tell us a little more on your game that you and your dad do on price hagglihng... it sounds like you two have a good thing going... and what did you end up paying for it.
Whats the plans with this one? (I kinda like the short/step/67GMC better than your long fleet.... you could swap it all over onto that truck)

Yeah the accessories are a bit different, but I can roll em

Krue, that is definitely some stuff to remember right thar

When I called the dude, I asked if I could pop the hood & he said yes so it was a cool surprise when I saw that HUGE engine
I thought it was odd that it had a 3-OTT, if I keep it I'll prolly put my NV-4500 in it (will it bolt up or is the bell housing different on these six's ?)
I think it needs a tune (but it seems to a good engine & doesn't smoke) but it can accelerate up a hill in 3rd gear, just not uber fast & a hill here isn't just a small mountain ;)

The system we have changes from deal to deal slightly, it's something that he & I have done for a long time and we have just got'n in tune to what each other are basically think'n, so it just works for us

Andy, it's a long bed :Own: If I keep it, I'll prolly put a 88-98 dually bed on it & convert it to a dually (I saw one in tyler yesterday & it looks sweet, but i didn't have a card to give him)
But thats just a thought, I may not do it that way
I like the V-6 / NV-4500 idea & get rid of the seats that are in it, but past that I dunno
If I keep it, I'll make it my hauler so I can do my black truck the way I really want it :metal:
