Re: 76 chevy dually getting slammed

I'd check the big name MFG'S first like Belltech or DJM.

If they dont make them ask them, they will probably know who does.

Some one is making parts for them cuz iv'e seen alot of 'em lowered.

Good luck.

Re: 76 chevy dually getting slammed

From what I have read,do the drop spindles and rear hanger/shackels. It's like a 3 & 4 inch drop. That is what my plans are. I just checked out western suspension at SportTruckDirect.com and it's about 530 bones for the kit. Good Luck

Re: 76 chevy dually getting slammed

'73-'91 GM C-30/C-35 6"/8.5" Econo/Deluxe Kits:
The 6" front drop uses Western's 3" front drop spindles
combined with 3" Smooth-Rider front coils. In the rear, a
8.5" flip kit and heavy-duty c-sections get the job done.
If you plan to tow after the drop...no problem! Just do the Deluxe Drop which includes a rear AirLift Slam-Air Plus 3000# load boosting system (on-board compressor kit available for $149.95 extra).
'73-'91 C-30/C-35 6"/8.5" Economy Drop: $649.95
'73-'91 C-30/C-35 6"/8.5" Deluxe Drop Kit: $949.95

i guess i wil have to come up with about 1200.00 bones firest.

the kit i want is Deluxe Drop Kit: $949.95.

shock lowers is extra
and that don't include schocks

Or how about this one. Nothing cooler then a square body pulling a square body:metal::metal:

I think that's the same truck before it was painted dark green. Cool. Go for the 6/8.5 drop!

I disagree, I think a 81 camaro with a 454, or a 74 Trans AM 455 SD would be even cooler on the trailer. it would be like those toy sets I had as a kid. :D

When they say it takes it all the way down, they aren't kidding. I had hardly any travel in the front end left. I had to relocate my charcoal canister and pull my inner fenders...which isn't really a big deal, but if I had a decent looking engine compartment, I'd be fabbing up some replacement fenders.

I ran a drop shackle in the rear along with the flip, so despite my best efforts to avoid it, eventually I had to cut a small hole in the bed for my pumpkin. The bangin around was driving me crazy. The bed was thrashed anyway, so I wasn't too concerned, and it was easier than pulling the shackles.

In terms of drivability, it's real nice...now. A 3/4 probably would have been a bit less work, but IMO you can't beat the look of the 6/8.5. I wouldn't hesitate to run that kit on a tow rig. Western puts out a quality product. In fact, I'm thinking about selling my '77 and swapping that kit onto my '86. The '77 turned out to be a pretty decent guinea pig. I know exactly what needs to be done to set up a 6/8.5 for daily driven reliability.

IMHO, I would not notch the frame on a truck that I was using to tow a trailer. I think there is too much liablity. Every vehical I have been in that had drop springs rode like crap and I would not want to drive any long distances in them. Maybe the "softride coils" are better than most vehicals I have been in with drop springs.

Actually in most cases a notched frame will be stronger if done right, if you are doing a notch out of .250 plate, and boxing the frame fore and aft, you will actually wind up with a much stronger frame than the single wall 3/16" thick C channel you have stock. I would do a 100% weld out to ensure the strength, and it should be good to go.
